JOB FILLED - Harvest Manager

Job Description: 
We are a grower, packer shipper of Head Lettuce, Cauliflower, Celery and Broccoli located along the beautiful central coast of California.   

We’re looking for an experienced, hands on Harvest Manager to take charge of all harvesting functions for all our crops in the Lompoc/Santa Maria area.

Requirements: 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in harvest or raw product quality inspection
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in English/Spanish
  • Ability to prepare harvest forecasts and compute expected volumes
  • Maintain valid drivers license and insurability
Responsibilities & Duties: 

Primary
  • Perform weekly 3-week forecast of crop volume and quality.
  • Inspect all commodity products prior to harvest and communicate any specification deviations or foreign object contamination potential to Scheduling and Manufacturing.
  • Inspect all commodity products at harvest to insure raw product meets harvest and product specifications.
  • Direct harvest crew Supervisors regarding quality and quantity of pack required. Notify receiving of arrival time of loads.
  • Daily coordinate with Sales to insure daily production is in line with current orders.
  • Plan daily harvest logistics.
  • Communicate daily on daily pack-out quantities and quality.
  • Communicate with growers on harvest waters and estimated harvest dates.
  • Document performance of varieties/lots for each crop.
  • Close all lots out with variety performance, yields and exact harvest dates weekly. 
  • Assist Supply, Manufacturing, Sales and Commodity Managers in identifying, locating and procuring items in short supply.
Secondary
  • Assist and promote good grower relations by listening to grower concerns, acting upon these concerns when appropriate or possible, acting in a professional manner with grower representatives.
  • Must be familiar with and implement appropriate Food Safety Programs.
  • Understand and remain current on supply, quality, market conditions and regulations in the produce industry.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field highly preferred
