JOB FILLED - Food and Field Safety Supervisor

Job Description:

The Employee must also adhere to all Company policies and practices while representing the Company in an ethical and professional manner in all interactions with employees, growers, customers, visitors and government agencies.

Compensation/Salary: 
$60K to $75K / Yr.
Responsibilities & Duties: 

FOOD SAFETY

  • Maintain and implement Food Safety Program for all areas: Salinas, Huron, Oxnard and Yuma
  • Adhere to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Leafy Greens standards (LGMA), FSMA, Customer Requirements and Company policies for Ranches and Harvesting Operations
  • Facilitate communication of food safety information to employees, customers and suppliers
  • Maintain excellent work relations with All Customers
  • Address customer inquiries and handle food safety related complaints
  • Assist in troubleshooting food safety problems and implementing improvements
  • Coordinate and oversee regulatory third-party audits, organic certification as well as in-house inspections of fields and harvesting operations
  • Accurately document and report test results in a timely manner
  • Review chemical inventory and help update respective SDS files
  • Verify the proper function, calibration, and accuracy of quality/food safety monitoring equipment
  • Conduct detailed and documented risk assessments
  • Investigate incident reports and follow ups
  • Conduct and prepared food safety training sessions as needed

 FIELD SAFETY

  • Provide safety training (new hire and on-going) and guidance to field personnel on all safety-related issues
  • Conduct daily ranch and crew safety inspections; report and address unsafe actions; and if necessary, escalate and communicate findings to appropriate leadership
  • Prepare timely reports, as required, of inspections and results
  • Conduct accident/injury investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Prepare reports on inspections and results
  • Monitor the enforcement of safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Human Resources
  • Management, Workers’ Compensation, etc.) in efficient delivery of training, and identification of issues
  • Notify manager of recognized hazards and possible risk mitigation. Recommend and implement decided corrective actions and follow-up to verify completion

 OTHER

  • Must be willing to travel to various regions, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills: 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, work beyond normal business hours, weekends as needed for business
  • Work well under pressure and meet various deadlines
  • Be well organized and able to multitask; work independently and manage a project from initiation to completion with minimal supervision
  • Proactively communicate task and project updates to manager; discreet handling of all business matters (maintaining confidentiality at all levels)
Qualifications: 
  • Minimum five-year experience in field related, fresh processing industry in food safety and/or quality; directly involved in field audits and policy implementation, general principles in microbiology, sanitation, pest management, and equipment design
  • Minimum two year experience in occupational safety with knowledge of OSHA compliance standards
  • Knowledge of GAP, GMP’s, HACCP, USDA/FDA guidelines as related to the fresh produce industry and PSA Certification is required
  • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisorial role, consulting, and training skills is highly desired
  • Bilingual English and Spanish with the ability to communicate, read, write and translate at a proficient level is strongly desired; must maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable
  • Proficient in various programs, including MS Office (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) applications and internet research skills; excellent typing and writing skills a must (correct spelling, punctuation and grammar); excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • At times working in an office and field often standing, walking, kneeling, turning, reaching, climbing stairs, operating computers for long periods of time and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • High use of communication either through telephone of one on one communication
  • Work in environments with a wide range of temperatures (fields from 40°F – 110°F)
  • Operate various office equipment, including (not inclusive list): telephone, computer keyboard, photocopy machine, fax, and other clerical and office equipment
