A successful grower, shipper, processor in the Salinas Valley is currently seeking a highly motivated, organized and experienced Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager. This position is fundamental in providing leadership and direction for a diverse employee group in our production/processing environment. Looking for an individual who will work hard to manage a product and a team, that he or she can be proud of. This position requires on site representation and support in both Salinas and Yuma, CA.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Responsible for the overall leadership of Food Safety and QA to ensure consistent and impeccable standards of safety, quality and sanitation.
  • Directly manage the sanitation department ensuring proper pre-operational procedures and environmental testing as required.
  • Manage quality assurance staff to ensure alignment of business needs and conditions.
  • Conduct training and auditing of all QA, Food Safety and Sanitation programs, regulatory compliance and facilitating food safety culture throughout the team and organization.
  • Coordinate consistent raw material product inspections with production manager/supervisors/leads to ensure high quality is maintained on a regular basis, and reports to Operations & Management staff.
  • Develop and lead QA technicians in quality initiatives and continuous improvement.
  •  Responsible for overall effectiveness and efficiency of food safety programs.
  •  Lead activities related to development and implementation of all aspects of sanitation (SSOP’s) procedures, regulatory audits, incoming raw material inspections, product scoring, food safety and GMP audits, pest control programs and customer or consumer complaint resolution.
  • Manage coordination and cooperation with on-site audits performed by FDA, GFSI, USDA and/or independent customer auditors.
  • Maintain compliance with all appropriate legal requirements, industry standards, while focusing on continuous process improvement.
  • Oversee monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meet the facility Food Safety and Quality Plans.
  • Maintain all registries as required by LGMA, FDA, USDA and GFSI.
  • Reassess Food Safety plan(s) whenever there is a change to program, process, procedure, specification, equipment, industry philosophy, technology, etc.
Qualifications: 
  • A Food Safety & QA expert with at least 10 years of work experience in fresh produce manufacturing environment.
  • Extremely knowledgeable in FSMA, Preventive Controls, Produce Safety Rule, HACCP, GMP, Sanitation, and quality and food safety programs required.
  • Able to implement and maintain a HACCP based food safety plan.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing high functioning teams.    
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence all levels of plant personnel with diplomacy.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, effectively present information to individuals and groups including growers, customers, clients, sales, upper management and other employees.
  • Outstanding project management and planning skills.
  • Must have unwavering integrity, flexibility, dependability, ability to work within policy guidelines and ability to work independently.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required.               
  • Seasonal relocation between Salinas, CA and Yuma, AZ required.
  • Must have completed a HACCP training course.
  • FSMA certificate: Preventative controls for Human foods.
