JOB FILLED - Education Specialist

Job Description: 

AgSafe is looking for an Education Specialist. This role takes direction from the Director of Education

This position does not have to be based in Modesto, the location of the AgSafe office. Given the amount of travel required, the individual may work from home.

Requirements: 
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of multiple state and federal occupational safety, health, human resources, labor relations, food safety, and pesticide safety laws and regulations.
  • Provide effective, interactive training integrating a variety of educational tools, including but not limited to agricultural equipment and technology.
  • Speak, read and write Spanish and English fluently.
  • Change priorities with little advance notice (less than 48 hours) including but not limited to new training assignments, curriculum development, translation projections, consultative projects, audit preparation and execution.
  • Use a computer and other office machines including printers, copiers, and smart phone.
  • Prepare clear and concise correspondence, memorandum, reports, and other written material.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively and professionally with the President and CEO, Director of Education, co-workers, members, and clients, orally and in writing.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization, maintaining our non-partisan, non- political position relative to these complex issues and emphasizing our goal to share practical resources and education.

  • Travel between 65-80% of the workweek. Nights and weekends, as needed.

Office environment includes working with computers and using the telephone extensively. On-farm environment includes but is not limited to orchards, vineyards, fields, processing facilities, packinghouses, and coolers. Travel to various functions in vehicles, airplanes or other transportation, as needed. Travel can be for lengthy periods of time and extend beyond regular business hours.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Assist in the execution of occupational safety, human resources, labor relations, and pesticide safety educational programs, including course delivery, curriculum review, evaluation, and updates as necessary.
  • Conduct occupational safety, human resources, labor relations, and pesticide
  • safety voluntary audit programs and consultative services.
  • Provide communication and curriculum management support to the Education
  • Team.
  • Assist in the execution occupational safety, human resources, labor relations, and pesticide safety education programs.
  • Deliver AgSafe training courses and participate in updating existing curriculum and resources to reflect regulatory changes and ensure that materials are dynamic and address the cultural, literacy and learning challenges of our diverse audience.
  • Conduct occupational safety, human resources, labor relations, and pesticide safety voluntary audit programs and consultative services
  • Execute occupational safety, human resources labor relations, and pesticide safety voluntary audits.
  • Conduct pre-audit interviews.
  • Review existing occupational safety, human resources, labor, relations, and pesticide safety materials.
  • Make on-site visits.
  • Develope review documents, and provide necessary follow-up.
  • When requested, provide consultative services with: Detailed and summary corrective action plans as it pertains to the issues identified through the audit/review process,.
  • Create and/or guide the writing of the needed documentation.
  • Conduct the appropriate training through the direct education of workers or training of trainers.
  • Establish and/or offer suggestions for the necessary record- keeping systems.
  • Create and/or offer suggestions for the necessary hazard identification and control process.
  • Provide additional options for improvement specific to the individual business.
  • Review and improve the existing audit and consultative services process, as needed. 
  • Provide communication and curriculum management support to the Education Team, including but not limited to: Assist in managing the Education Team’s training and curriculum
  • development calendar, assist in managing and updating systems to effectively track and report the Education Team’s priorities, assist in managing content management systems ensuring training curriculum is kept current, organized and easily accessible, and assist in the execution of AgSafe’s digital training platform.
  • Provide Spanish-bilingual support, which includes, but is not limited to: Assisting Spanish-speaking AgSafe members, program participants, donors and other individuals by telephone, email, in writing, and in person at the AgSafe office, all AgSafe programs and in other environments, Translating documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English, and Proofreading existing documents for accuracy.
  • Serve as back-up support to other members of the AgSafe staff and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant occupational safety, human resources, labor relations, and/or pesticide safety experience in the food or farming industries.
  • Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited university with major course work in occupational safety, human resources, business, public policy, agriculture or related field.
  • Valid Class C California driver’s license required, including proof of vehicle insurance. 
  • Qualified Applicator’s License (QAL) or Pest Control Advisor license (PCA) desired but not required. If not in possession, attainment of at least a QAL will be required within 6 months of employment. 
  • GAP and/or GMP certification (or equivalent) desired but not required. 
  • HACCP certification desired but not required. 
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation desired but not required. 
  • Professional of Human Resources (PHR) accreditation desired but not required.
