Job Description: 

The Transportation Operations Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate all the activities and personnel related to transportation operations including Dispatching, Routing, and Tracking Transportation Vehicles. Will oversee the management and maintenance of 16-20 field to cooler hauling trucks and 6-10 freight long line tractor trailers.

Physical Requirements

  • Employee must have the ability to walk, talk, hear, see, speak, concentrate, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, lift up to 60 lbs.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Direct activities of staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities
  • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles
  • Plan, organize, and manage the work of staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with the organization’s goals
  • Regulatory Compliance (DOT, CARB, FMCSA, OSHA, Other)
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, contracts, and government regulations
  • Conduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets
  • Logistics; Assess and apply procedures to improve efficiencies
  • Involved in the negotiation and authorization of contracts and other forms of purchases and procurements that are related to transportation
  • Develop indicators that measure and show the effectiveness of the company’s transportation operations
  • Collaborate with other manager and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives

  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints

  • Recommend or authorize capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment in order to increase efficiency and services
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services
  • Negotiate and authorize contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitor contract fulfillment
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and/or 5 years plus working experience in a similar role or capacity
  • Experience with transportation equipment, logistics management and a thorough understanding of DOT and APCD regulations is required
