Job Description: 

As Human Resources Generalist, you will be responsible for being the day to day point of contact with operations in carrying out responsibilities in the following human resources functional areas: employee engagement and relations, individual and organizational training and development, performance management, recruitment and retention, labor laws and compliance, safety, risk management and policy implementation.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

In this position, the employee will sit at a desk and operate a computer, and keyboard; hear; talk; stand; walk; bend, stoop, twist, and reach. The employees must have visual acuity to review and prepare written documentation; have the ability to understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; and have manual dexterity to operate a telephone and computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, uneven, muddy walking surfaces and inside and outside weather conditions (hot and cold temperatures). The noise level in the work environment may range from quite to loud noise levels. 

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Provides compliance training and guidance to new and returning employees in Wage and Hour, Rest & Meal Periods, Prevention & Reporting of Sexual Harassment and Entitlement Leaves. 
  • Provides orientation and guidance to new and returning employees on Employee Handbook, Prevention of Harassment and Bullying, Sick Leave, Prevention of Workplace Violence, Benefits and overall company Policies and procedures. 
  • Coordinates with management outside agency audits, inspections and non-scheduled visit to our worksites such as the U.S. Department of Labor, state unemployment departments, OSHA inspectors, county inspectors, etc. 
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and helps ensures that policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. 
  • Assists with in the dissemination of information across the Company regarding laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures. 
  • Maintains on going communication, collaboration, and a professional working relationship with Management across all Operations to explore opportunities, address challenges and provide support and guidance on areas related to training and development, employee issues, performance, absenteeism, quality, productivity, and safety. 
  • Engages with all workforce in a respectful, positive, and efficient manner with a goal of recruiting and retaining a safe, productive, valued and diverse workforce. 
  • Recognize employee’s quality, service and dedication by fostering a work environment that promotes the interest of our employees and our Company. 
  • Responds, investigates, documents, exercises good judgement and provides recommendations regarding employee complaints, concerns or suggestions. 
  • Handles employee disciplinary matters and investigations in a confidential, ethical, efficient, and expeditious manner. 
  • Prepares memorandums and non-confidential employee exit meetings. 
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed. 
  • Assists with supporting record retention and data integrity of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) records. 
  • Provides follow-up guidance on authorized leaves (family medical leave, leaves of absence, military leave, holidays, bereavement, etc.). 
  • Must be able to travel in Mexico and coordinate the H-2A Visa Program as required with the Company’s facilitator and the American Consulate.
  • Generally, is the first responder for employees’ injuries and the first contact with medical providers. 
  • Document incidents and conducts causal effect investigations and recommends corrective measures. 
  • Administers the Company’s safety policies including substance abuse, vehicle policy, IIPP, RMP/PSM. 
  • Conduct or coordinate trainings on the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA), Injury and Illness Protection Program (IIPP), heat stress, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Equipment Operator Certification for forklift operators, machines operators, and tractor drivers. 
  • Conduct general hazard inspections throughout the operations. 
  • Respond to job modification requests in coordination with the Safety Manager. 
  • Provide safety equipment as needed and recommended, and any equipment required as a result of a temporary or permanent medical condition. 
  • Draft Standard Operating Procedures for new functions being performed and for new equipment being rolled out. 
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with team members, Supervisor, Operations, entire workforce, and vendors that reflect a reputation for professional communications, service, trust, integrity, reliability, attention to detail and urgency. 
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality regarding critical and sensitive information. 
  • Must have the ability to relocate to our different growing areas. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record to drive a Company vehicle. 
  • Works on-call after hours, or on weekends as required. 
Education: 
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university or a minimum of five years related experience and/or training.
Qualifications: 
  • Bi-lingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish and have the ability to communicate effectively in all circumstances, including over the phone, email and in person.
  • Must have superior written and verbal interpersonal skills to communicate, work with and respond to questions from employees, in the field, to the various Operations, outside agencies, team-members, supervisor, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to effectively present information and have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where either limited standardization exists, or a recommendation needs to be made to produce outcome desired.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel and PowerPoint), HRIS, and Internet software.
