We are currently accepting resumes for an experienced Produce Buyer to join our family in Santa Barbara, CA.

This position is responsible for ensuring that products are purchased at competitive prices, of acceptable quality and maintained at reasonable inventory levels as per company guidelines.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Locate sources of supply.
  • Obtain written quotes from suppliers.
  • Negotiate prices and place orders for product consistent with JFS quality standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels daily, and place orders according to company guidelines.
  • Review the below minimum report daily, and act on products that are going to be out of stock prior to the next order being delivered.
  • Handle day to day calls from sales as to inventory questions – stock on hand, PO due dates, special order questions, product questions, etc.
  • Assist sales in getting price quotes as needed and help the marketing department with information about new item flyers and tracking/notifying sales upon arrival.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university.
  • 5 years of produce buying experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have knowledge of market conditions and sources of supply with the demonstrated ability to plan and organize the purchasing function.

Skills: 
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer system to obtain and manipulate data, request reports, answer inquiries, etc. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing and spreadsheet manipulation.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-task skills, oral and written communication and strong follow up.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to do presentations to groups.
