Military Produce Group is recruiting a mid-career level Buyer to purchase dynamic portfolio of produce. This position will be responsible for maintaining adequate inventory levels for assigned vendors and ensuring superior service levels while maintaining inventory turns and reducing product spoilage. This role will also be responsible for supporting day-to-day Purchasing activities including daily and weekly reporting to the management teams. The position is based in Norfolk, VA.

Requirements: 
  • 7+ years Produce industry experience. 
  • BSc/BA in business Administration or relevant field preferred.
  • Self-starter, motivated, detail oriented, and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of growing seasons, inflation/deflation cycles, inventory experience, and pricing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience reporting, analyzing and gathering data.
  • Ability to work within a team environment; problem solve, complete tasks independently, and learn new skills and tasks as needed.
  • Demonstrable aptitude in effective negotiating.
  • Up to speed with purchasing best practices.
  • Familiarity with market research, data analysis and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of purchasing software.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Evaluate supplier options according to prices, quality etc. and determine the best choices.
  • Discover and purchase new products and check the quality and popularity of those already on our shelves.
  • Negotiate terms of agreements to achieve the best deal for our company.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of products and compliance with the contracts of purchase.
  • Monitor stock levels and make plans for buying within budget.
  • Analyze and monitor sales records, trends, weather/seasons, and economic conditions to anticipate buying patterns and determine what product will sell required inventory.
  • Examine, select, order and purchase products at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other established factors.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
