Job Description: 

Pure Pacific Organics, LLC., is one of the best recognized leafy green processors, marketers and distributors of high-quality fresh and fresh-cut in the USA. Production runs continuously all year round operating in Gonzales, California. 

The Human Resource Manager works closely with Human Resource (HR) Director in assuring a safe and accident free work environment, processing of weekly payroll, employee benefits, and talent management. Position is responsible for compliance of all governing agencies as directed by the standards and procedures from regulatory and internal requirements.   

Position is year-round operating in Gonzales, California. HR Manager reports directly to HR Director. Work schedule is based on company needs and demands.

Requirements: 
  • 5+ years of relevant human resource experience in the area of employee/labor relations, management/organizational development, training, talent acquisition, and risk management. 
  • Degree in human resources or related field preferred; will accept equivalent work experience. 
  • HR recruiting experience that includes positions both at entry and supervisory levels. 
  • Preferable 3+ years in processing agricultural multi-state payroll. 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, but also sensitive to situations where information must be shared on a "need to know" basis.
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate (English/Spanish) required.
  • Computer Proficient – Outlook, Word, Excel, Payroll Software, HRMS software, etc.   
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices and basic working knowledge of federal and state payroll rules.
  • Basic understanding of OSHA regulations, and Labor Pay Issues (CA vs. AZ).
  • Strong interpersonal, written, communication, organizational and analytical skills.  
  • Detail oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline oriented environment.
  • Must be able to handle difficult/confidential situations in a professional and tactful manner.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as operation needs arise (seasonal peaks).
  • Ability to occasionally work in wet and cold environment and occasional lift, bend and twist.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Partner with department managers to acquire, manage, and develop talent to reach organizational objectives. 
  • Provide day-to-day coaching to leadership (Managers and Supervisors) on a variety of actions to include employee relations issues, policy interpretation/application, and workforce planning.   
  • Direct the recruitment efforts of personnel, coordinate and oversee new employee orientations. 
  • Responsible for employee relations, ability to establish and maintain high-level relationships with department managers, and maintain excellent rapport with all employees from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Review and take necessary steps in escalated employee relationship issues, problem solving, and conduct objective investigations when necessary. 
  • Recommend, prepare and/or execute disciplinary action, improvement plans, and employee counseling.  
  • Maintain personnel records and HR documentation (disciplinary, transfers, and employment separations).
  • Administer and manage eligibility of employee group benefits (Health insurance, 401k, Cafeteria plan, etc.) 
  • Oversee the payroll process of employee timesheets (100-125 employees), production reports, etc. 
  • Ensure attendance, hours worked, and pay adjustments are tracked and documented accurately.
  • Review time sheets, work charts, wage computation, and other information in order to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies. Record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive increases.
  • Oversee process of correct garnishment calculations and compliance with Federal/State agencies. 
  • Ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations with support and direction of Corporate HR/Safety.
  • Maintain safety records, safety trainings, and injury reports (OSHA 300 log and Worker’s comp files). 
  • Administration of company safety programs such as Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) return to work (RTW) program.
  • Conduct and coordinate regular safety training, inspections, and maintain safety corrective records.
  • Lead safety audits processes, partnering with corporate HR/Safety team. 
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations as needed, safety incentive programs and participates in Corporate Safety Committee meetings. 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding leave of absence (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA, and Workers Compensation) to meet federal and state employment laws and regulations. 
  • Responsible for tracking and documentation of compliance of plant SOP and handbook policies and procedures. Distribute and educate personnel on company policies, procedures, and benefits. 
  • Participates in weekly meetings with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Develop and deliver line employee and management training courses covering an array of relevant topics; as well as provide oversight over the company’s safety programs.
  • Respond to unemployment claims filed, and EDD court appearance(s) in response to contested claims.
