Senior Director of Purchasing

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Director of Purchasing provides strategic leadership and oversight of the company’s purchasing function. This role is accountable for sourcing strategy, supplier management, and procurement-driven margin performance. The position leads a team of Purchasing Directors and ensures alignment of procurement execution with company financial objectives and customer requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and execute enterprise purchasing and sourcing strategies.
• Establish and manage supplier relationships and long-term agreements.
• Own procurement-driven margin performance and cost control initiatives
• Oversee purchasing operations, forecasting, and supply continuity.
• Provide final decision authority on supplier selection and sourcing strategy.
• Partner with sales, operations, and accounting to align on customer programs and service levels.
• Lead, develop, and manage the two Purchasing Directors and their teams.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive procurement leadership experience.
• Proven experience managing managers and leading high-performing teams.
• Strong negotiation, financial, and analytical skills.
• Experience in produce, foodservice, or perishable supply chains preferred.

WORK LOCATION:

This position is based at Markon’s headquarters in Salinas, California. Travel to growers, vendors, member‑distributors, and industry events will be required.

COMPENSATION:

$220,000 - $270,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
