JOB FILLED - Farm Production Automation Engineer

Job Description: 
Betteravia Farms/Bonipak is looking for a qualified individual to join the Farm Production Department in Santa Maria, CA as the Farm Production / Automation Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining automated equipment and their activities for our farming operations of vegetable and berry crops. This position reports to the Vice President of Farm operations and will work closely with the rest of the engineering department, ranch managers, and shop department to support the production of a constant supply of quality produce.  
 
Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Manage the automated operations for the production department
  • Manage engineering projects related to existing and new equipment
  • Manage troubleshooting & repairs for automation equipment to ensure machine reliability 
  • Document troubleshooting processes and create detailed record books
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained properly and kept in the highest operating condition
  • Communicate with vendors about new equipment and design feedback
  • Manage spare parts inventory to minimize downtime on equipment
  • Evaluate current farming practices and present automated solutions
  • Submit weekly thinning and weeding schedules, billing, and thinning chemical reports
  • Maintain detailed records on equipment and projects (cost and efficiencies)
  • Coordinate applicable recommendations for thinning with the PCA’s & Supervisor 
  • Improve efficiencies in the production automation equipment and processes
  • Field and irrigation design development
  • Calibrate and manage all spraying tractors and equipment
  • Recruit and interview operators’ personnel as needed
  • Train and monitor employees. 
  • Maintain appropriate level of employees with technical expertise 
  • Manage departmental Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) 
  • Communicate closely with Ranch Managers on field conditions and scheduling
  • Coordinate and direct Yuma’s In house automated thinning program
  • Ensure company standards are met in Production and Operation
  • Ensure compliance of company policies, Food Safety, Worker safety, Employee relations and all Government Regulations
Position Requirements:
  • Agricultural Systems Management or Engineering Degree
  • Mechanical and Welding Experience (Preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years-experience in related position
  • Strong electrical understanding and computer skill
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides handling
  • Good understanding of managed service provider operations and systems administration
  • Ability to work within a team and continually provide results 
  • Working knowledge on Spanish (Preferred)
  • Minimum travel requirements to Yuma during Winter season
