The Executive Proposal: Why a Job Offer Is a Lot Like a Marriage Proposal

In executive search, we know we are nearing a successful match when we reach one crucial milestone: both sides genuinely want each other. The company is excited about the candidate. And just as important, the candidate is excited about the company.

At Joe Produce Search, we often compare the hiring process to dating. The early conversations and interviews are where both sides get to know each other, test the chemistry, and decide whether there is enough there to keep going.

Eventually, the process has to move beyond interest and into commitment.

That is where a job offer starts to feel a lot like a marriage proposal. In both cases, one side is stepping forward to say, “We see a future with you. We value you. And we hope you choose us, too.”
