Job Description:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for the purchasing and negotiating of fresh food products within the Procurement Department of a high-volume food service distribution center. The role is responsible for improving procurement strategy, maximizing vendor relationships, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, committed to purchasing top quality labels, and minimization of spoilage; interacts effectively with internal departments including Operations, Sales, Quality Control and Accounting.
This position is at our location in Warrendale, PA (this is not a remote position).
Essential Functions
- Enter orders with accuracy into the company’s ERP system.
- Manage inventory levels to ensure expected service levels.
- Negotiate pricing as needed.
- Ensure truck load configuration and optimization.
- Maintain industry knowledge and market conditions/trends in order to identify opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, logistics or related field is preferred.
- Seven (7) years of related experience in procurement/inventory management roles related to the produce industry. Eight plus (8+) years of buying produce categories is preferred.
- Strong organizational ability.
- Demonstrated success in independent problem-solving.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Outlook, and Word and prior experience working with ERP. Familiarity with Produce-Pro is a plus.
- Able to understand basic correspondence, instructions, rules, policies, graphs, and/or charts.
- Able to draw logical conclusions from text, and “reads between the lines” to find underlying meaning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences throughout the organization and externally.
