Job Description:

We have an immediate opening for an Assistant General Manger to join our team in Santa Maria, CA.

The Assistant General Manager will be responsible for the continued improvement, implementation, and evaluation of processes designed to ensure maximally efficient, safe, and profitable operations of the Main Street Produce cooling and shipping facility. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Requirements: 
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to talk, hear, see and concentrate for extended periods of time
  • Ability to utilize fine motor skills to operate a mouse and keyboard, and to manipulate papers for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds 
  • Ability to safely and legally operate a vehicle on public and private roads
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Provide leadership and management to support the day to day operations and values of the company
  • Develop, implement and evaluate processes for receiving, cooling and shipping product that maximize efficient, safe and profitable operations and ensure continued favorable relations with shipping customers
  • Coordinate with controller to develop and monitor budgets
  • Manage efficiencies of the cooler, including labor efficiencies, power use efficiencies, equipment efficiencies, etc.
  • Oversee the care of the facility, equipment, ammonia refrigeration system, solar system, camera system, security system, fire protection system and offices by ensuring that all are kept at company standards designed to maximize efficiency and eliminate unnecessary expenses
  • Ensure that contingency plans are in place to minimize disruptions in case of any out of the ordinary occurrences related to the facility or its personnel
  • Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including but not limited to Cal-OSHA, DOL, California Accidental Release Program,, Risk Management Program, Environmental Safety Program etc.)
  • Continue to refine, implement, and administer the company’s food safety program, including by overseeing development and maintenance of SOPs, manuals and policies and procedure related to food safety issues, overseeing internal and third party food safety audits and monitoring operations to ensure that all product leaving facility meets food safety and customer quality requirements
  • Continue to refine, implement, and administer the company’s employee safety and workers’ compensation programs including by overseeing development and maintenance of training programs,  the company Safety Committee, internal employee  safety audits and by managing workers compensation if/when they occur
  • Oversee employee selection, development, compensation, discipline and terminations
  • Monitor compensation of work force to ensure competitiveness and efficiency
  • Assist as needed with other tasks as they may arise; particularly by providing managerial level assistance to Freshway Farms and Fresh Valley Harvesting as needed
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a closely related field OR an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years plus experience in a similar capacity
