The Center for Produce Safety (CPS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. CPS is a collaborative partnership that leverages the combined expertise of industry, government and the scientific and academic communities to focus on providing research needed to continually enhance food safety. This level of collaboration allows CPS to fill the knowledge gaps on produce food safety and address both research priorities and immediate industry needs. CPS initially launched as a public-private partnership but is now international in scope with projects in 5 countries around the globe. CPS has compiled an impressive 11 - year body of work, awarding over $29 million and funding 172 one- to two-year research projects at 43 research institutions. In 2019, CPS funded 15 research projects in 6 states, from Arizona to New York. In addition to the annual call for research proposals, CPS revamped its annual research funding program to encompass immediate industry needs with Innovation Challenge Grants and Rapid Response Research.
