Job description

The Drayage Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of ocean containers between the Port of Hueneme, customer facilities, cold storage warehouses, and designated delivery locations all in the state of California. The driver ensures compliance with all DOT, CBP, port, customer, and company requirements while maintaining a high level of customer service and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company-owned tractors and customer owned chassis to transport containers to and from the Port of Hueneme.
  • Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
  • Verify container numbers, seal numbers, and shipping documentation before departure and delivery.
  • Retrieve loaded containers from port terminals and return empty containers
  • Ensure all containers are properly secured and comply with weight distribution and load securement regulations.
  • Report equipment defects, accidents, delays, or safety concerns immediately to management.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, fuel records, and delivery documentation.
  • Adhere to all port security requirements, including TWIC regulations and terminal operating procedures.
  • Follow all CBP, USDA, and other regulatory agency requirements when transporting bonded or inspected cargo.
  • Monitor container temperatures when transporting refrigerated cargo and report any discrepancies.
  • Assist with container repositioning between company facilities as needed.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, terminal personnel, and company employees.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Current Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  • Valid TWIC Card.
  • Clean driving record with the ability to meet company insurance requirements.
  • Experience operating tractors with chassis and ocean containers preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and hours-of-service requirements.
