Logistics Assistant

Reports to: Logistics Manager

Salary: $45k - $50k depending on experience

POSITION PURPOSE

Coordinate and secure ground transportation and support ocean freight shipments for Sun Fresh International and Polar Fruit products, maintaining ongoing communication with carriers and logistics partners to ensure products arrive at their destination on time and under the conditions established in the applicable agreements. The role also supports the Supply team by entering purchase orders into the system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor purchases entered into the system by the Supply or Logistics teams and coordinate the transportation required for the corresponding products.
• Secure the necessary ground transportation for loads and the required ocean-freight space.
• Negotiate and confirm freight rates with carriers and issue purchase orders to transportation providers.
• Coordinate and track product transportation, including communication with storage facilities, to ensure shipments progress as planned.
• When required, coordinate with the appropriate border-crossing contacts to support the proper movement of cargo across the border.
• Maintain up-to-date freight-rate files and document carrier-related comments to preserve a useful service-performance history.
• Promptly inform the Category Manager and/or Logistics Manager of any situation that may affect the proper delivery of product and request their intervention when appropriate.
• Appropriately handle confidential information.

EDUCATION & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

• Education / Field: Logistics or Business (technical or professional level)
• Technical Knowledge: Microsoft Office; port operations knowledge preferred; logistics and transportation knowledge preferred
• Core Skills & Competencies: Conflict management; sound decision-making; negotiation; timely decision-making; problem solving; strong attention to detail
• Languages: English. Spanish (preferred) 
• Attention to detail is especially important for this position.

• Work Location: Sun Fresh International office – Visalia, California, USA / Remote
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., subject to business needs and seasonal requirements
