Job description

Why Join Western Precooling Systems?

When you join Western Precooling you aren’t just taking a job in engineering, you’re joining a legacy of innovation that has sustained the global food supply chain since 1942. We are the industry leader in post-harvest cooling, ensuring that fresh produce moves from the field to the dinner table in peak condition.

As an Entry-Level Engineer here, you won’t be stuck behind a desk all day. You will be part of a tight-knit, expert team where your contributions are visible and your growth is prioritized. We offer:

  • A "Best of Both Worlds" Culture: The stability and expertise of an 80-year-old industry leader combined with a forward-thinking, innovative engineering environment.
  • Direct Mentorship: Work side-by-side with senior engineers who are invested in teaching you the nuances of industrial and structural design.
  • Tangible Impact: See your designs come to life in massive, state-of-the-art cooling facilities across California, Arizona, and Mexico.
  • Career Foundation: Gain specialized experience in industrial foundations, seismic design, and plant infrastructure that will set you apart for the rest of your career.

The Role: Entry-Level Civil / Structural Engineer

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented engineer to join our expanding team in Castroville, CA. This is a hands-on role where you will support the design and analysis of the critical infrastructure that keeps our cooling systems running, from complex foundations to heavy-duty equipment support structures.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design & Analyze: Assist in the engineering of shallow and deep foundations, as well as the steel racks and supports for massive industrial piping and equipment.
  • Model & Draft: Use CAD and structural analysis software to create the models, drawings, and specifications that guide our construction teams.
  • Collaborate: Work across disciplines with mechanical and civil teams to ensure every component of a facility integrates perfectly.
  • Get Into the Field: Don’t just look at blueprints—conduct site visits and assist with field inspections to see how your designs perform in the real world.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (a Structural emphasis is a major plus!).
  • Experience: 0–2 years of experience. We love seeing internships or co-ops on your resume.
  • Technical Foundation: You have a solid grasp of steel and concrete design concepts and a basic understanding of industry codes (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC).
  • Digital Proficiency: You’re comfortable with AutoCAD or Revit. If you have experience with structural analysis tools or GIS, we want to hear about it.
  • Soft Skills: You are a natural problem-solver with the communication skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Employment Type: Full-Time.
