The Buyer is responsible for maintaining FreshDirect's inventory position on a daily basis.
This role requires a pro-active, flexible, buying professional that quickly learns new roles and has experience trouble shooting and improving supply chain processes.
This role requires a self-starter with ability to be flexible in an often ambiguous environment.
- Execute daily purchases to maintain inventory availability
- Manage forecasts as necessary
- Collaborate with Merchant Manager on financial objectives
- Liaise with vendors about all product issues
- Coordinate the activities of related workers involved in purchasing materials, products, and services
- Report on vendor and inventory issues to Head Merchant
- Responsible for the Quality Assurance of all in-bound merchandise
- Work with accounting to solve invoice discrepancies
- Manage relationship with plant production, operations, replenishment, and receiving to ensure product quality and availability
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline and/or sufficient experience
- Knowledge with Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of SAP a plus
- Financially and analytically savvy
- Comfortable managing day-to-day operations
- Attention to detail, including analytically minded approach to problems
- Detailed-oriented and thorough

Five plus (5+) years buying experience including experience buying perishable product in a distributor environment directly from growers and manufacturers
- Two plus (2+) years management experience
