The Senior Accountant will manage all financial and accounting processes for our packing and cooling facility in Coachella, CA.
This hands-on role involves using Famous Software, QuickBooks, and payroll software to ensure accurate and timely financial records for our produce packing operations. This position will also assist with human resources (HR) administration and employee benefits. This position reports directly to the CFO or Owner and requires in-depth knowledge of agricultural business practices.
Duties and responsibilities
- Financial management: Oversee all accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Cost accounting: Utilize Famous Software to manage cost accounting functions specific to the packing and cooling operation, including tracking costs for labor, equipment, utilities, and packaging materials.
- Financial reporting and analysis: Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports). Provide financial reports and analysis to management.
- Billing: Calculate and input weekly/monthly invoicing on storage, cooling and shipping activities.
- HR and payroll: Administer in-house payroll using QuickBooks and other relevant payroll software. Manage employee benefits and maintain accurate employee records.
- Compliance and auditing: Ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant financial and agricultural regulations. Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and work papers.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Support the budgeting and forecasting processes. Perform variance analysis to provide insights and recommendations to management.
- Accounts reconciliation: Prepare and review all account reconciliations, including bank statements, balance sheet accounts, and payroll liabilities.
- Process improvement: Develop and document accounting and HR procedures to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the fresh produce or packing/cooling industry.
- Proven expertise with Famous Software and QuickBooks.
- Solid understanding of HR and payroll processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel skills.
Fluency in Spanish is a plus due to potential interactions with employees.
