The Nunes Company, Inc. has an immediate full-time position for an enthusiastic, hard-working Packaging Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to join a large industry leading Salinas-based, grower/shipper.
This position requires 5 years of experience or equivalent work experience in packaging, purchasing, and inventory control, logistics, accounting, commodity sales or other Ag Operations.
It is important that candidates have either an excellent understanding of the complicated nature of buying packaging for a wide range of product lines, product types, grades and SKU’s or an excellent understanding of the agricultural operations of a grower-shipper.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A) in related field - 5 years of years of work experience in the agriculture industry, experience in packaging, purchasing, inventory control, logistics, and accounting.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Outstanding prioritization and time management skills are essential; attention to detail is required.
- A proven ability to work with a variety of people and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Travel to packaging locations will occur in all areas of harvest intermittently during the growing/harvest season. Travel to supplier/vendor locations will occur intermittently during the year.
- Procurement of packaging materials for a wide variety of products.
- Procurement and management of the inventory and logistics of all packaging materials.
- Manage all logistics for transporting packaging materials to the right place at the right time in the right quantity.
- Monitor and maintain purchase orders and delivery schedules to ensure on-time and accurate deliveries; coordinate all supply distribution and logistics.
- Process and provide accounting department with necessary documentation to ensure proper payment to vendors and ensure that accurate inventory values are accounted for and maintained.
- Determine the quantity of all packaging required to support the projected annual pack plans for fresh fruit and vegetables, and monitor usage of supply items on a daily and weekly basis to ensure adequate supplies are constantly maintained.
- Solicit bids based on supply specifications, quantities needed, terms of delivery, payment terms, etc., and negotiate with vendors to facilitate efficient packaging at the most economical cost.
- Oversee inventory control, management, and accountability for all supplies.
- Maintain and define current inventory programs and procedures.
- Monitor quality assurance and compliance with required customer and FDA regulations for fresh packaging.
- Actively build business relationships with appropriate suppliers and vendors.
- Liaison between sales, marketing, harvest operations, and vendor on development of new packaging.
- New Art/Art Changes – initiates all new art and art changes as directed by Sales and Marketing departments.
