JOB FILLED - Operations Manager

Job Description: 
Orto Foods Inc is a premier processor of high-quality fresh cut vegetables.
 
We are looking for an Operations Manager to lead our new fresh cut facility in Tijuana, Mexico. This person will develop and recommend plant objectives, short- and long-range plans and programs together with supporting budget requests.
 
Candidate needs to have an entrepreneurial spirit along with exceptional communication and analytical skills. They will have direct oversight over the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced, and shipped at the best possible cost to meet the customer’s requirements while maintaining corporate established quality standards, and ensure that appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) are developed and maintained. Candidate should be comfortable looking through data to find operational efficiencies and process improvements including yield, labor, planning and shipping.

 

Responsibilities: 
  • Direct and supervise managers in production, quality, maintenance, planning, logistics etc in the execution of their responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with each team and oversee the plant is running efficiently and managers are communicating well and working seamlessly.
  • Ensure continual improvement of current processes, procedures and infrastructure to improve profitability. Monitor and evaluate cost per pound, pound per man hour & product yields standards
  • Create and implement new processes and systems to support the start-up of this new production plant.
  • Quickly identify problem areas and use analytical metrics to create actionable solutions.
  • Develop good employee relations and ensure the whole team is following company vision.
  • Develop management systems, establish work measurement programs, and perform line workload observations to develop standards for labor and materials utilization. 
Qualifications: 
  • Five years management experience in a fresh produce processing operation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in management, business, food science, engineering or related field, OR an additional four years of experience in a fresh produce processing environment
  • Being detail oriented and use data-driven performance analysis to then demonstrate ability to choose effective adjustments
  • Have functional understanding of produce sourcing/procurement
  • Demonstrated success in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and/or other disciplines focused on driving operational efficiencies, waste reduction, and habitual excellence
  • Expertise in detailed planning, budgeting, and reporting
  • Experience in PRIMUS GFS standards 
  • Substantial knowledge of processes and equipment used in fresh cut produce manufacturing
  • Production scheduling experience
  • Manage cost and manufacturing components such as package material, raw ingredients, fixed and variable labor, quality, efficiency, reliability, scrap, rework, energy, GMPs, safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • General knowledge of Mexican labor laws
