Job description

Summary:

A Blue Banner/National Organic Packing Sanitation Supervisor is experienced, ready to design and implement our company’s sanitation policies. You are responsible for developing sanitation protocols in line with state health and safety regulations. You will be required to conduct daily sanitation inspections and oversee staff. You must demonstrate strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and ensure the facility is always up to code and running efficiently.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing sanitation policies and protocols.
  • Coordinating and monitoring cleaning schedules.
  • Creating and distributing work schedules for the sanitation workers.
  • Performing daily inspections of the manufacturing facility and reporting any irregularities.
  • Implementing corrective actions to ensure compliance with regulatory authorities.
  • Enforce the policies and procedures surrounding food safety and hygiene.
  • Keep detail records of all sanitation related activities and issues, such as inspections and violations, also notating how and when each situation was resolved.
  • Monitor the preparation and use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Train sanitation workers and organize refresher workshops for existing staff.
  • Responsible for leading a team of 10-15 employees.
  • Responsible for completion of day-to-day cleaning and sanitation work tasks.
  • Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills, and information within the team and across functional areas.
  • Coordinates with maintenance personnel and sanitation crew the dismantling of production lines and equipment in preparation for cleaning.
  • Responsible for providing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules to sanitation lead/team members for cleaning equipment and areas per schedule. Cleaning and sanitation tasks are to be done correctly to maintain product safety and equipment.
  • Responsible for completion of visual inspections and ATP Bio-Contamination Testing.
  • Responsible for reviewing all sanitation records and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Can work as a member of the sanitation team to clean general plant area and equipment using the following tools: broom, brushes, spray bottles, mop and ringer, squeegee, pressure washer, vacuum, and other appropriate sanitation equipment.
  • Uses industrial strength cleaners, degreasers, and sanitizer to clean factory equipment and general plant area (chemical titration).
  •  Responsible for assisting production with cleaning production lines when there is a product change to ensure the production line is free of allergens.
  • Cleans chemical room, process floor dry goods area and other work areas.
  • Responsible for the operation of floor scrubber, floor sweeper, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain an adequate level of chemicals and cleaning supplies.
  • Clean site walls, floors, racking, doors, etc.
  • Clean facility building, grounds, lighting, parking lots, etc.
  • Sanitize restrooms, offices, and break rooms.
  • Maintain facility in a clean and safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Manager.

 Food Safety Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with all Plant, Federal and State regulations such as: Cal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and Primus.
  • Sanitize in accordance with SOP’s, HACCP, GMP, EPA, and Cal OSHA requirements and product specifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or a similar field.
  • Previous experience as a Sanitation Manager.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Advanced managerial skills
  • Detailed knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to design and implement training programs.
  • Maintain a program of Inventorying and ordering cleaning chemicals, cleaning equipment and replacement parts for the Sanitation Department. 
  • Evaluate effectiveness of Pest Control program and Chemical Supplier programs.
  • Extensive knowledge in sanitation in a food processing environment.

 Organizational Relationships:

Position directly reports to: Plant Managers (Jim Layes and Maria Espana)

 Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a food processing plant.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining a high accuracy workforce.
  • Ability to work nights and occasionally weekend shifts.
  • Bilingual A MUST.
  • Capable of working in a team environment; with others and can work effectively together to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Proficient knowledge of spreadsheets, docs, and computer applications using Outlook and Excel.

Physical Demands:

  • Position requires hands on working at the plant level packing and receiving environment
  • Position requires frequent talking, hearing, and vision; with frequent standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Shift requires bending, stretching, stepping, reaching, climbing, and stooping.

 Work environment:

Works in ambient temperature type production and receiving environment with typical production related noises from processing packing machinery.
