Job Description: 

Stern Produce is a family owned produce wholesaler established in 1917.  Our main warehouse is located in Phoenix, Arizona with additional warehouses in Flagstaff and Tucson. We are a large volume distributor with a deep sense of tradition and long established relationships with our community, our customers and suppliers. We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Transportation Manager in our Phoenix, Az. location. The Transportation Manager will be responsible for coordinating the safe and efficient delivery of fresh produce throughout the state of Arizona, and will oversee dispatch and regularly audit current delivery routes, and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements without sacrificing safety and customer service.

Additionally, the Transportation Manager will be responsible for staffing and scheduling for multi-stop delivery routes, while complying with DOT regulations to include driver hours of service and training requirements.

Qualified candidates will have a focus in workplace safety, food safety, quality, efficiency, and customer service.  Candidate must have working knowledge of Road Net logistics/routing software.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Oversee a fleet of 40 plus refrigerated delivery trucks and vans.
  • Responsible for hiring all drivers, driver orientation, safety training and DOT compliance.
  • Train drivers in roles and responsibilities regarding logistic strategies.
  • Promote a culture of safety, and conduct all accident investigations for driver related accidents.
  • Regularly audit delivery routes and conduct weekly/monthly/quarterly feedback sessions with drivers.
  • Interact with Purchasing and Sales departments in order to solve potential delivery problems as they occur.
  • Anticipate driver and routing needs for holidays and special events to avoid any disruption to the normal delivery schedule.
  • Monitor Food Safety compliance and employee adherence to company Food Safety Standards.
  • Supervise dispatchers and ensure all delivery routes and duties are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Enforce policies and procedures for product delivery (truck cleanliness, temperature and service).
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by Operations Manager.

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Manage time effectively and be able to multitask.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Road Net software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Move product, supplies, and boxes up to and over 50 lbs.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching.
  • Ability to work in cold warehouse environments.

Work Schedule:

Interested candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule and extended hours as required by business operations.

Qualifications: 
  • Minimum of 3 years driver supervisory experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of produce, workplace safety, food safety and distribution.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Must pass pre-employment background, motor vehicle report, physical and drug screen.
