- Bachelor’s degree preferred (but not required) with emphasis in business administration, economics, and/or management with three to five years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a wholesale/produce environment.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of produce experience. Strong commodities knowledge of all produce categories.
- Personal computer skills, mainframe operations as relates to procurement, related software, and knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes required.
- Must have excellent written communications skill set.
- Bilingual a plus.
- Must be able to work minimum 40 hours a week and most Saturdays as business requires, rotating schedules at times. Open availability and ability to work varied hours with early start times. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.

- Responsible for securing cost-effective, quality product.
- Responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt, and inventory control of the products as assigned.
- Responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels of assigned commodities.
- Assure that quality product is available at competitive cost.
- Work as a team with sales, warehousing, distribution and logistics.
- Monitor product forecast, market trends and suppliers to determine future prices and availability.
- Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate prices and terms with suppliers; and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Confer with existing vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
- Must possess good knowledge of fresh produce including seasonality and geography of fresh produce supply.
- Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety.
- Minimize shrinkage/spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Excellent computer skills, word, excel, 10-key and must be able to prepare purchase orders or bid requests as required.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Communicate with vendors to find out status of an order – booking, loading, tracking and receiving.
- Contact vendors regarding discrepancies with quantity and quality.
- Interface with all departments and resolve problems and issues. Must be able to build teams and establish relationships.
- Communicate favorable purchasing opportunities to management.
- Perform other duties as instructed by supervisor.
