Job Description: 

AJ Wholesale Produce is a family-owned produce distribution company located in Sheboygan, WI. AJ prides themselves on generations of experience, high quality produce and customer service.

We are seeking a Procurement Manager for our Sheboygan, WI location.

SUMMARY: This position has the responsibility for the procurement of goods and services following Food Safety policies, USDA and PACA Policies and when applicable local, state and federal regulations. Duties include planning, scheduling, initiating, monitoring of all procurement and contract activities. Work requires independent and professional judgment and is performed under the general direction of the owner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the procurement process under the direction of the President.
  • Manages and reviews documents for the procurement of all supplies, equipment and services for the authority and ensures compliance with the Procurement Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as applicable federal and state laws.
  • Generate effective communication, good relations, and a positive image with suppliers, customers, and co-workers promoting courtesy, objectivity, and fairness.
  • Supports inside sales with answering phone calls, taking and entering customer orders, and providing customer service.
  • Ensures suppliers deliver materials and services in accordance with standards of price, time, quantity, and quality agreed upon.
  • Maintain contact with suppliers for information regarding deliveries, schedule changes, and reporting issues.
  • Participate in negotiations with suppliers involving total cost of possession, legal requirements, and contract terms and conditions.
  • Responsible for ensuring records are maintained and procurements are documented from origination through completion.
  • Enter all purchasing information on the system including vendor information, purchase orders, pricing, supplier acknowledgement response, and inventory information.
  • Maintains complete record of authority contracts for goods and services.
  • Makes recommendations on policies and procedures as needed to ensure the success and compliance of all procurement related activities.
  • Coordinates routinely with other departments to assure effective and timely coordination and teamwork in procuring goods and services. Provides procurement research, guidance and direction by presenting available procurement options.
  • Manages product recall procedures including coordinating staff to contact customers and the return of product.
  • Advises President of market conditions and supplier base activity which could affect pricing and/or delivery.
  • Investigates and resolves pricing discrepancies and variances between (1) purchase order and acknowledgement, (2) purchase order and invoice, and/or (3) invoice and standard cost.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business Management, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years supply chain or purchasing experience.
  • CPIM (Certified Planning & Inventory Management) certification or progress towards preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Ability to implement SOPs to improve business functions
  • Self-sufficient and creative leadership approach
  • Ability to operate complex computer systems including use of the Microsoft Suite and inventory management systems.
  • Ability to recognize areas for improvement and implement actions that lead to company growth
  • Build consensus among conflicting points of view through active discussion
  • Advance organizational stability through change and risk management
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles
  • Lead the development and training of procedures that ensure deadlines are met on time and accurately.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to frequently lift and move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Working conditions include office, warehouse, and cooler areas. Temperatures vary from 35 degrees (F) to 90 degrees (F).
