Since 1999, Jacob’s Tomato Corp has been providing the finest fruits and vegetables throughout the greater New York City area. We are now the largest produce wholesaler and distributor in New York City and we specialize in top-quality fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, blueberries, and citrus fruits.
We are looking for an experienced Wholesale Produce Buyer with experience selling as well as creating new retail accounts and finding new food service accounts.
While we are based in Brooklyn, NY, this role can be remote for the right candidate.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Knowledge of market trends, best buying practices, merchandising, pricing, and development of assigned categories.
- Understanding of growing seasons and economic cycles.
- Experience with pricing by monitoring supply and demand to determine what will be sold and how much inventory is needed.
- Ability to negotiate costs and sourcing while meeting financial expectations.
- Purchase products consistent with quality, quantity, and other established factors.
- Effectively build and maintain relationships with the proven ability to source new products, suppliers, and categories.
- Determine product assortment, placement, and distribution contributing to the business growth, planning, strategy, and performance.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Already has previous relationships with vendors / customers.
- Deal firmly but fairly with a high degree of integrity in all transactions.
- Strong multi-tasking capabilities with the ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines.
- Always represent our company and customers professionally.
- Bilingual preferred
