Vegpro International Inc. is a continuously growing Quebec-based company located in the Montérégie region and employs close to 800 people. The company offers a very dynamic working environment and faces exciting challenges! The company has three (3) product packing plants, two (2) plants in Sherrington and one (1) in Florida, in addition to cultivating land in both Quebec and Florida.
Under the responsibility of the farm agronomist, you will have to plan, perform visual inspections of crops, traps and fences and ditches to identify any diseases, infections, insects, weeds, unknown pest or any other problem and carry out the necessary follow-up with the persons concerned. You will have to respect and ensure compliance with OHSA policies and procedures, good agricultural practices and food security.
Must be available to work in Florida (6-7 months per year).

Plan/perform visual inspections of crops, traps and fences and ditches to identify any diseases, infections, insects, weeds, unknown pest or any other problem and carry out the necessary follow-up with the persons concerned.

Plan the order of the fields to be inspected according to the crop plan and the harvest schedule (fields, seedlings, varieties, densities, etc.)

Walk fields to locate and identify pests that may impact yield, make recommendations on control methods based on experience

Install and inspect fields, traps and fences following established protocols and methods and compile results in the screening register (one sheet / field)

Communicate any irregular situation to the agronomist so that the necessary actions are taken

Prepare samples of various kinds (pre-harvest microbiology, disease, insects, unknown weeds and pests, soils, leaf and irrigation samples) and forward them to the agronomist or the different laboratories as required

Record the results of the inspection daily in the appropriate MS Excel file and submit a report to the agronomist and spraying supervisor

Respect and ensure compliance with OHS policies and procedures, good agricultural practices and food security

Attend training sessions and review all written and distributed materials related to injury and disease prevention, accident reporting procedures and any other safety information distributed by Vert Nature

Respect safety standards and measures and report any hazardous situation or potential contamination to the immediate superior

Keep your work environment clean and safe

Ensure employees are working safely, adhere to the established dress code and the use of mandatory protective equipment

Training and technical skills
- DSC in horticultural production and environmental technology or any other relevant training. An absence of a diploma can be compensated by sufficient experience
- Six (6) months experience in crop scouting
- Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish. Oral skills in French is an asset
- Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to walk and remain standing for long periods of time
