Job Description:

The Agroscience Research Scientist (T1) will design, plan and conduct plant-based trials at Heliae’s greenhouse facility, aimed at developing and optimizing ag science products derived from Heliae algal strains. He/She will be responsible for overseeing all data tracking for these experiments as well as analyzing and presenting all relevant data and learnings. The Research Scientist will help guide the protocol design and data analysis of external field trials, as needed and will interact at a technical level with all other aspects of the Program. The Research Scientist will also take part in planning additional experiments in the plant greenhouse and laboratory. He/she will work directly with the Lead Agroscience Technician and other technicians to ensure smooth operations of all Ag Science facilities where experiments are performed. The Ag team experiments involve working with vascular plants and other safe organic materials. The associate will comply with all Heliae laboratory safety and quality standards.

Requirements: 
  • MS degree in related Plant Biology field or equivalent research experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to train new technicians in plant-based techniques
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and statistical software
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Oversee the design and implementation of greenhouse experiments with various crop targets
  • Conduct data analysis on all experiments and provide detailed reports and presentations of data and conclusions to Supervisor, Ag Science Team and larger Heliae community.
  • Ensure proper set up and maintenance of on-site greenhouse
  • Coordinate experimental timelines with Lead Technician, Agronomist and supervisor
  • Participate in the overall planning of Heliae’s Agroscience work.
  • Ensure that experimental data is collected, graphed and analyzed properly in Excel and other relevant statistical software.
  • Perform wet chemistry techniques as needed.
  • Adhere to good documentation practices while using laboratory logbooks and electronic logs on Box server.
  • Maintain and update chemical inventory and inventory of Safety Data Sheets.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment to ensure quality data.
  • Maintain a clean “24-hour Audit Ready” work space at all times.
  • Comply with all job specific Standard Operating Procedures if applicable.
  • May perform other duties as needed or directed by the Direct Supervisor.

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to work 40 or more hours per week at Heliae’s headquarters in Gilbert, Arizona
  • The ability to work weekends and overtime when needed

    • Walk a construction site and work in a hot/humid greenhouse and outdoor environment.
    • Sit for extended periods of time (2 hours at a time, 8 hours per day).

    • Frequently (34%-66%) perform fine manipulations with hands and fingers.
