Job Description: 

Responsible for assisting the Operations and Purchasing Departments to ensure assigned categories are merchandised and priced according to Amelia’s Grocery Outlet standards. Responsible for training of managers and produce managers in the following disciplines: quality of product, standards, merchandising, and maximizing sales. The successful candidate will lead the produce merchandising efforts for the 15 current Amelia’s stores, plus future stores in the service area.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment described below is representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must possess the ability to stand in place for long periods of time; walk in the store; bend, stoop and kneel regularly. Requires fine finger and broad manual dexterity, and eye-hand-foot coordination in order to operate equipment.

This position requires the employee have the ability to have full range of upper body motion in order to lift stock.  Requires the ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively.

Must possess functional sensory abilities in order to visually monitor the store, create attractive displays, and to operate equipment.

Working conditions consist primarily of a temperature-controlled environment.  The ability to work outside checking store property, in walk-in coolers or freezers for short periods of time is necessary. 

This job involves exposure to changing temperature and humidity (i.e. freezers, coolers and warehouse). Chemical cleaning agents, irritating or competing noises or other irritating substances, and working in areas with wet and slippery floors.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Assist, direct and educate managers to achieve profitable results in sales, marketing, merchandising and inventory management.
  • Develop managers to improve sales, communicate best practices in ordering procedures, inventory control, and backroom organization.
  • Responsible for developing managers to improve sales, communicate good ordering procedures, inventory control, backroom organization, proper variety in stock.
  • Support store management in the area of marketing and special promotions to ensure that all activities meet the store level P&L goals.
  • Actively participate with retail operation and human resource departments for the recruitment, training and development of future produce department personnel.
  • Monitor performance standards to ensure that best practices and consistency are achieved at store level. Make adjustments and correct areas of deficiency.
  • Act as liaison between store management, Amelia’s and Grocery Outlet to ensure that the produce departments at each store are following proper procedures in merchandising, marketing strategies and procurement.
  • Ensure that each store is complying with Federal, State and Local regulations including Country of Origin Labeling.
  • Work with Information Systems department to develop, test and implement the technology needed to streamline business practices.
  • Incumbent will have financial delegation of authority to make business within limits set by the department.
Education: 

B.A. or equivalent combination of education and work experience to be determined by management.

Skills: 

Must be proficient (Intermediate level) in MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with management experience in produce department marketing, merchandising or procurement.
Qualifications: 
  • Candidate must have at least five years of produce grocery experience with a minimum of two years in a management capacity.
  • Thorough knowledge of retail operations including merchandising, display, procurement, and marketing.
  • Must understand basic financial statements such as P&L, sales and budget.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate policies, procedures, reports, and other documents to be read by store management and corporate management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and compliance rules, operation instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Under limited or no supervision, have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Travel within the service territory (currently 15 central-eastern PA, and future stores) is a requirement of this position. 
  • Candidate must have a current PA license.
