Logistics Coordinator

Job Description: 
Awe Sum Organics, Inc. is a well-established importer and marketer of organic fruit.  The company has been in business since 1985 and is a leader in the industry, with domestic and international product supply and distribution throughout the U.S. and Canada.
 
The Logistics Coordinator coordinates the movement of our organic fruit from the country of origin to our domestic warehouses.  It requires a hands-on approach and close collaboration with our growers, our sales team, our remote warehouses, our transportation partners, and various inspectors. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills, be highly organized, excel at data entry, and have excellent planning and follow-through skills.

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 1 to 2 years related experience.  Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Produce knowledge highly desirable
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Famous
  • Excellent telephone communication, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and tasks as needed
  • Ability to work within a team environment

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common industry information, orders and packing information.  Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers.  Ability to write clearly and present numerical data efficiently. Ability to communicate and effectively present information with management and others.  Spanish language skill a plus.

Mathematical skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Environment:

  • This job is performed indoors 100% of the time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee sometimes works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electric shock, and moves up and down stairs.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The temperature of the work environment is moderate indoors and ranges from 60 to 80 degrees.

Physical Demands:

Miscellaneous:

  • During the non-peak season (September through February), this position may work fewer than 40 hours per week. During the peak season (March through August), this position may be required to work overtime with little extended time off. Some after-hours, on-call work is required in November & December.
  • Minimal travel to represent Awe Sum Organics, Inc. at trade shows or conventions.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Request, file, and maintain applicable shipping documentation; review documentation for accuracy and notify affected parties of changes
  • Monitor inbound shipments, provide shipping information, required documentation, and ETA details to appropriate parties
  • Resolve manifest discrepancies with shippers
  • Coordinate various inspections with appropriate parties – bird dogs, QC inspectors, USDA
  • Work very closely with our Sales Team, transportation partners, warehouses, and inspectors to coordinate inbound shipments with product demand
  • Coordinate multiple container shipments from various domestic ports to our cold storage warehouses in a manner that minimizes delays and costs
  • Update shipment status in Famous
  • Format grower pallet lists for Quality Control
Education: 
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 1 to 2 years related experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred
Skills: 
  • Proven experience with MS Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Fresh produce (sales and/or production) experience is desired
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to stay focused in the midst of an active and changing environment, and stay calm under pressure
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple urgent duties
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, interpersonal
  • A “can-do” attitude with the ability to take initiative on processes outside of defined job scope; including motivation to research and provide proactive solutions to management
