As an Assistant Controller for their Field Operations, you will be a crucial part of the company's financial and accounting process, constantly being challenged with multiple tasks in this dynamic business. Managing a small team, you'll closely collaborate with production teams and company leadership. Responsibilities include leading the accounting functions for two entities, handling financial reporting and analysis, managing internal controls, overseeing the annual audit, and owning the monthly close process. Your keen eye for detail and ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously will be essential in maintaining the company's high standards.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Oversee financial operations for farming operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Drive the development of streamlined processes for the accounting team.
  • Identify and address variances between budgeted and actual results.
  • Deliver timely and accurate financial reports to support decision-making.
  • Analyze financial data, including revenues and expenses, for precise recording
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process and conduct various analyses.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to a team of up to 3 staff and senior accountants.
  • Prepare precise financial reports and verify the accuracy of all financial statements.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with an outside CPA firm during the annual audit process.

  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Assess financial performance and provide strategic recommendations to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Lead or participate in special projects or initiatives aimed at improving financial processes, systems, or reporting capabilities.
  • Act as a liaison between finance and other departments to ensure alignment of financial goals with overall business objectives.
  • Execute month-end accounting procedures to close financial records efficiently.

Qualifications: 
  • Experience in Agricultural Accounting: 4+ years of experience or knowledge of agricultural accounting practices, including cost accounting, inventory valuation, and crop accounting.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Processes: Familiarity with manufacturing processes within the agricultural industry, such as processing and packaging.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, as well as experience in generating insightful financial reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Experience with ERP Systems: Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems beyond just Microsoft D365, especially those tailored to agricultural businesses.
  • Leadership and Team Management Skills: Strong leadership abilities, including the capacity to motivate and develop a team, foster collaboration, and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Problem-Solving in Dynamic Environments: Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing circumstances, solve complex problems, and make informed decisions in fast-paced and dynamic environments characteristic of the agricultural industry.
  • Continuous Learning and Professional Development: A commitment to staying updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development activities, such as attending relevant workshops or obtaining certifications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, such as operations, procurement, and sales, to align financial strategies with broader business objectives and drive performance improvements across the organization.
