Job Description: 

Our client is a full service sourcing and consolidation center based in Nogales, AZ.  They are comprised of a team of seasoned sales and procurement people with a combined 100+ years of experience delivering quality produce to customers throughout North America.  The company provides its customers a one-stop shop for all their Mexican produce needs. The Food Safety and Quality Control Manager will be responsible for developing and overseeing all of the food safety regulations, policies, and procedures along with all aspects of quality control for their Nogales location and all other locations.  They will conduct food safety audits, as well as manage third party audits, and be responsible for the overall implementation with daily management of the QC Program.  Also, oversight will extend to the maintenance and sanitation of facilities, and ensure that their business along with their growers and vendors are complying with all food safety requirements.

Ideal Candidate:

The selected candidate will develop, implement, and enforce security, quality control, and food safety standards, policies, and programs including HACCP, regulatory audits, food safety training programs, standard operating procedures, product inspections, and standardized work instructions for all applicable internal and external businesses.

Requirements:

  • Develop and provide training for food safety and quality control requirements.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, as well as maintenance of manuals, policies, and procedures as they relate to all food safety concerns.
  • Enforce good manufacturing practices that include, but are not limited to the following:  sanitation, pest control, security, and temperature management.
  • Supervise audit system for internal facility operations to maintain compliance to internal (Quality Management System) and external (Third Party Audits, customer audits) requirements.
  • Supervise product inspection program to ensure internal and customer specifications are consistently met.  Make recommendations of specification changes and updates.
  • Manage environmental microbiological and ATP program.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive and ongoing quality control program, which includes line personnel training, compliance reviews, corrective actions, maintenance of QC records, and creation of detailed tracking reports.
  • Appropriately train and mentor QC staff.  Conduct performance evaluations, manage training needs, etc.
  • Work with procurement on educating potential suppliers on food safety requirements.
  • Ensure all company food safety and quality control procedures are followed and documented at all times.
  • Conduct field inspections related to food safety.
  • Automate processes where applicable using Information Technology (IT) support.
  • Update existing food safety procedures and documentation to keep up with changing requirements.
  • Oversee proper maintenance and sanitation to ensure all facilities comply with food safety requirements.
  • Travel will be required with work performed in divisional offices, field and production facility locations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years produce industry experience in food safety and quality control areas, with management level experience in HACCP, GFSI, GAPs, GMPs, USDA, or FDA is preferred.
  • Previous experience with SQF, GFSI a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Able to work unsupervised and manage independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Possess strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and internet applications, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, along with Famous software.
  • Demonstrate strong and sound decision making capabilities.
  • Must be flexible with work hours, days, and locations.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate across multiple teams, emphasizing urgency in resolving issues or concerns.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science or related field (Food Science, Crop Science, Microbiology, etc.).
  • Knowledge of, and experience in advanced food safety and/or quality systems.
  • Five years of produce industry experience in food safety and quality areas.
