San Jose Trading, LLC is a leader in selling, marketing and distributing produce, grocery, and dry foods to foodservice, stores, and hospitality industries and other customers. We service our customers in Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana and Georgia. We deliver service, quality and fresh products the whole year with a complete fleet of trucks.

As we continue to expand our business, we are now hiring experienced drivers to join our team in Tennessee. Candidates must have experience with straight trucks 20 to 26 ft with cooling units and be able to drive 18-wheeler semi-trucks. Drivers may carry a wide range of goods, and they will be responsible for planning their own routes and timing to delivery locations.

This person will be the "Face of the Company", as they are the only one who will actually meet the customers face to face.

Position Reports to: 
Warehouse Manager and Operations Manager
Requirements: 
  • Truck drivers must have a driver's license issued by the State in which they live, and a clean driving record.
  • Drivers of trucks designed to carry at least 26,000 pounds -- including most tractor­ trailers, as well as bigger straight trucks -- must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) from the State of Tennessee.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with ability to pass a physical examination once every year. The main physical requirements include good hearing, at least 20/40 vision with glasses or corrective lenses, and a 70-degree field of vision in each eye. The Driver/Delivery Person cannot be colorblind.
  • In addition, San Jose Trading Inc.'s Driver/Delivery Person must  not have been convicted of a felony involving the use of a motor vehicle; a crime using drugs; driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol; or hit-and-run driving that resulted in injury or death.
  • Drivers must take a written examination on the Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the U.S.Department of Transportation.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a Commercial Driver is required.
  • Produce experience is highly desired. 
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Unload shipments from the general warehouse and deliver to grocery stores, restaurants, and /or any other location as per route assigned
  • Ensure that all deliveries are made on time, complete, in the best quality condition, in the most efficient and cost­ effective manner
  • Meet all customer's requirements in terms of parking into their facility, unloading into their store or business, and receiving inspection and acceptance
  • Keep accurate logs of trips and activities and ensure that vehicles are in proper operating condition, while ensuring  proper maintenance schedule for Company/Ryder vehicles are met
  • Provide delivery service to all customers assigned under the route
  • Collect invoice payments as requested by the Accounts Receivables Department; while meeting all the instructions and delivery policy as per the Vehicle & Driver's Manual.
  • Complete   all  jobs   within   the   expected   times   and   achieve   or   exceed   the productivity standards set by the company.
  • Achieve or exceed the goals set for the department.
  • Ensure the company's Quality and Safety Standards are met.
  • Ensure  the  Policies  and  Procedures  of  the  company  are  followed  as  per  the Vehicle I Driver's Manual.
  • Ensure  that  there  are  excellent  working  relationships and communications channels between the Warehouse, Credit and Sales Department, and the rest of the staff so as to maintain a good company relations climate.
  • Make necessary decisions to complete the delivery service, collecting inspection and ensuring   acceptance signatures,  while providing and  ensuring customer's satisfaction.

Principal Duties:

  • Perform all work scheduled, in a professional manner, within the expected or budgeted times and according to the company's quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure all collected payments from Customers, including cash, checks or money orders are counted, checked for errors and kept safe at all times, while placing them immediately in the Safety Box.
  • Complete delivery of  work orders with all available  information  (order#, product,  value, etc.), and note any problems encountered, including:  shortages, errors, or quality  issues.
  • Implement proper tool's control and account for all tools and equipment assigned to you.
  • Continuously upgrade your skills through systematic cross-training, and company meetings.
  • Fully utilize your time to maximize productive time and minimize non-productive time.
  • Keep track of all orders and products delivered and notify Supervisor of any problems.
  • Check, control and maintain Trailer's Box temperature constantly, to ensure product quality and freshness.
  • Monitor your actual productivity levels achieved against the goals and standards and always strive to achieve or exceed these standards.
  • Up-sell and note any potential sales opportunity encountered, and direct the sales lead to the sales person responsible for the area or directly to the Sales Department to follow up.
  • Be professional, courteous, neat, clean and in proper unifom when on duty.
  • Keep any vehicle assigned to you in a properly maintained condition: Check oil, water, tire pressure, and battery daily. Check general vehicle condition daily. Report  all vehicle  defects to the Warehouse  Manager  and complete vehicle maintenance report.
  • Investigate, analyze and identify the root causes of problems encountered in the daily operations and, working together with the Operations Manager, take the necessary corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure the  company's  Quality  Standards  and  Health  and  Safety  Procedures  are  being complied with as per the Driver's Safety Manual.
  • Complete all work assigned to meet agreed customer and company requirements.
  • Implement Good Housekeeping Practices in your work area, based on the principle "A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place".
  • Ensure  all  tools  and  equipment  are operational  at  all  times.  Make  recommendations for replacement or repairs as required.
  • Take prompt action to respond to all complaints and concerns by informing the proper department.
  • Interact positively with customers and perform all duties in a professional and ethical manner, projecting a favorable image of the company at all times.
  • Perform   any  other  task  or  work  assignment  that  may  be  delegated  to  you  by  your Supervisor from time to time, the Warehouse Manager on duty or Operations Manager.
Education: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent grade 12 plus training and/or certification in automotive repairs and maintenance, commercial vehicle and truck driver  training. 
  • A CDL - Driver License is required. Must meet state licensing laws and follow federal regulations regarding the operation of vehicles.
Skills: 
  • Good attitude, mathematical reasoning, basic mechanics and vehicle maintenance, account management, loading and unloading, customer  service, and quality control.
  • All drivers must be able to read and speak English well enough to read road signs, prepare reports, and communicate with law enforcement officers and the public.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time and ability to perform lifting, loading and unloading.
  • Statistical and analytical knowledge using general business and mathematical skills.
  • Language requirements are  reading, writing, spelling and the ability to communicate clearly with all customers.

Qualifications: 
  • Class A Combination license required. 
  • Must have experience with straight trucks 20 to 26 ft with cooling units
  • Must be able to drive 18-wheeler semi-trucks
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desirable
