The Role: The Senior Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) plays a key role in our business by providing the overall leadership and management of the Environmental Health & Safety program to keep our associates and operations safe. In this highly visible role you will drive a proactive culture that results in superior EHS performance across all locations of the Company.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Ensure compliance and foster a culture of safety, hygiene, health, and environment through definition of programs, systems and processes, policies and procedures that are compliant with applicable law and guidelines, and reflective of industry best practices.
  • Present as a visible leader, influencing and motiving, while providing support for a strong proactive safety culture.
  • Work collaboratively with business operations to implement innovative and proactive safety and health initiatives to reduce EHS risk,
  • Monitor, analyze and report EHS data for trends and areas of concern. Report EHS performance to management and area leaders.
  • Research and strategize emerging and complex risks; keep abreast of legislative/regulatory EHS changes of that may affect business functions.
  • Plan and implement programs to train supervisors, managers and employees in work site safety practices to increase proficiency and promote a safety conscious work environment.
  • Lead EHS inspections, conduct hazard and risk assessments, and develop and implement appropriate follow-up plans.
  • Participate and provide guidance during any EHS emergency.  Serve as Safety Officer to intervene whenever conditions pose an immediate threat to life or health or threaten damage to property.
  • Design and implement frameworks for risk management and monitoring for minimizing exposures to EHS hazards and risks.
  • Oversee the administration of workers’ compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier on specific claims and claim reduction.
  • Build and develop a high-performing EHS team while encouraging open communication and talent development.
  • Manage communication and change regarding organization-wide EHS initiatives. Promotes EHS awareness through internal company communication, newsletters and specific training programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) field
  • Solid knowledge of a variety of EHS concepts, practices, and procedures including knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Labor (DOL), environmental laws and other EHS laws required.
  • Organizational development and/or training & development experience in an agricultural environment
  • Experience in EHS operations and program implementation and management in an agricultural environment
  • Ability to design and implement frameworks for risk management and monitoring, manage change for company-wide initiatives
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Must be able to travel to support the operations.
  • Compensation is commensurate with education, years of experience and past history relative to the preferred qualifications.

  • Possesses 5-7 years of experience managing an EHS program
  • Must be able to collaborate across the business on varying initiatives.
  • Must posses a hands on approach with the ability to easily shift between strategic and tactical activities
  • Energetic with the ability to influence change
  • Works with and promotes a sense of urgency to support EHS initiative throughout the business
