Family Tree Farms is a family-owned grower/packer/shipper headquartered in Reedley, CA. The Safety and Compliance Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects involved in maintaining the safety of the organization by developing, maintaining and implementing environmental, health and safety policies, procedures and programs such as: IIPP, Accident Reporting and Investigation, Worker’s Compensation Claim Management, Emergency Action/Response Plan, Fire Prevention, Forklift Operation, Hazardous Communication, Hearing Conservation, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Safety and Equipment usage, Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Committee Meetings, Safety Training, Record Keeping and Posting Requirements and assigned facility safety inspections.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or relevant subject
  • 5-7 years of experience working in a safety and risk management role preferred experience in an agriculture environment, food or beverage processing or facilities management.
  • Clean California Driver’s License.
  • OSHA Certified.
  • Working knowledge of FSMA, Global GAP and other Food Safety related programs.
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate (English and Spanish)
  • Strong communication and exceptional leadership skills.
  • Technologically savvy and able to demonstrate competence in a variety of technological platforms and processes.
  • Strong Business acumen, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, especially within a highly innovative environment
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills, and proactive thought leadership.
  • Comfortable interfacing with and presenting to executive management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to influence all levels, including senior-level executives, with strong interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy representing the Safety and Compliance department in executive settings.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Industrial Illness Prevention Program (IIPP): Maintain, implement and oversee the various elements of the company's IIPP.
  • Accident/Exposure Reporting and Investigation: Manage, implement and oversee the Accident/Exposure Reporting and Investigation program. Ensure the program prescribes methods and practices for reporting and investigating accidents/exposures.
  • Workers' Compensation Claim Management: Review, monitor, and manage the claims process. Manage the early return to work and modified duty program, monitor and analyze accident and injury trends, identify areas for increased training and emphasis of accident prevention.
  • Emergency Response Plan: ensure Company’s Emergency Response Plan is current and implemented. Ensure appropriate individuals are trained in the processes and procedures should the plan be activated.
  • Fire Prevention: Review, revise, and implement the Fire Prevention Program including building evacuation procedures and training for all assigned facilities.
  • Forklift Operation: Ensure the company Forklift Operation Program is compliant. Oversee forklift training, track and monitor forklift certification training records and licenses, ensure daily forklift inspections are being conducted and documented, ensure employees are wearing the appropriate PPE.
  • Hazardous Communication: Review, revise, and implement the Hazardous Communication program. Ensure the program and company practices comply with Cal and Federal OSHA standards.
  • Lockout/Tagout: Review, revise, and maintain the Lockout/Tagout Program.
  • Machine Safety and Equipment Usage: Ensure the company has a current and functioning Machine Safety and Equipment Usage Program. Ensure the program is communicated to employees and provide training as required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Assess the need for PPE by job, identify appropriate PPE compliant with applicable regulations; ensure employees are trained on the use and purpose of PPE; ensure employees are consistently and correctly wearing the appropriate PPE for the job being performed.
  • Safety Committee: Conduct regular labor and management safety committee meetings. Develop committee agendas, ensure notes are kept of meetings, maintain meeting records, and train appropriate individuals in the purpose and role of a safety committee.
  • Safety Training: Develop and implement an annual safety training program to include classroom training, tailgates, and written materials. Safety Training is to support the overall safety program and the IIPP.
  • Record Keeping and Posting Requirements: Ensure documentation concerning the safety function is current and maintained per mandated record retention regulations. Generate the OSHA 300 and 300A log and post annually per OSHA regulations.
  • Facility and Field Inspections: Coordinate and conduct work area assessments, surveys, and program evaluations to determine the presence of hazardous conditions.
  • As needed or required, serve as the company representative in Worker’s Compensation hearings and/or discovery meetings.
  • Ensure full compliance of FLC-E issuance and maintenance.
