Job Description: 

Jealous Fruits is a leading sweet cherry producer/marketer, based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Jealous is a family owned and controlled company, with farming roots in the Okanagan Valley going back to 1903. The company’s 1200 acres of cherries are focused on late season production, feature extraordinary quality, and service worldwide markets throughout the months of July and August. In addition, Jealous serves an expanding base of neighboring cherry growers.

Kelowna is a lakefront town with a population of 150,000 people, outsized services and amenities, a bustling cultural life, and copious all season recreational opportunities. Kelowna is linked to Vancouver BC via a 4 hour drive, and regularly scheduled 40 minute flights.

We currently have an opportunity for a Director of Human Resources to join our company and lead our Human Resources team.

The Director of Human Resources is part of the leadership team and supervises the Human Resources Department, which provides its services to managers and staff of Jealous Fruits. The Department seeks to promote a company culture of caring and compassion through servant leadership and trauma-informed care. 

The successful candidate will lead our team in recruiting new employees to meet the needs of our growing company.  They will involve all relevant mangers, ensure all relevant documentation is obtained and in order, as well as coordinate the interview and onboarding process.  They will also Work with upper management to help identify options to create a seasonal labour force of 1200 plus people. Staff numbers must be sufficient to harvest, sort and pack 10,000 tons of sweet cherries annually.  Within this overall structure, maximize usage of Canadian staff to the extent possible, and in particular maximize use of local staff.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 5 years in a senior Human Resources role;  or a minimum 10 years experience in any senior executive role.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and team building skills.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Ability to work very long hours in summer when peak staff are present.
  • Bachelors degree in HR Management;  or equivalent post-secondary education in lieu of.
  • Previous experience in the agricultural industry preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred;  but not required.
