Our current opportunity is for an Experienced Citrus Buyer to join our team in McAllen, TX.
In this role you will be responsible for procuring, selecting and purchasing citrus fruit for sale while maintaining optimum inventory levels to fulfill customer demand and expected service levels. Produce Buyers are expected to locate supply sources, develop grower relationships, negotiate pricing, secure freight, analyze buying trends and understand market conditions to meet company objectives.
This includes building and maintaining customer and vendor relations, managing purchasing decisions to ensure 100% on time delivery of the best quality products at a competitive cost. You eill negotiate pricing and volumes with vendors as well as coordinate and manage transportation as needed.
The person we’re looking for has:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Must possess strong analytical skills.
- Must have a strong ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Deal strongly, but fairly with a high degree of integrity in all transactions.
- Represent our company and customers professionally at all times.
- At least five years of fresh produce procurement experience in watermelon.
- Demonstrated knowledge of produce commodities, vendors, market pricing factors, quality indicators, and PACA laws.
- Strong computer skills, (Microsoft office programs).
- Experience with Mexican limes and Texas citrus a plus.
