We have an immediate need for a Pest Control Advisor in Modesto, CA.
The Pest Control Advisor will be responsible for monitoring all pests and writing pest control recommendations to address pest issues. Time will be spent out in the field monitoring crops and directing the spray team personnel. You will also be responsible for communicating and interfacing with all other field, office and harvest departments on pest issues. As an integrated farm operations member, you will also focus on Ratto Bros crop production operation and coordinate pest control activities to optimize land utilization, labor and equipment to produce high quality crops in an efficient and effective manner. Other duties as assigned.
Responsible for:
- Control of insect and disease pests at each ranch by walking fields daily.
- Soil fertility and plant fertility program at all ranches.
- Responsible for all test plots as assigned at different ranches.
- Providing safety training and PPE’s for employees doing spraying.
- Controlling vertebrate pest control: gophers, squirrels, and birds.
- Assisting and advising maintenance mechanics on sprayer equipment maintenance, cleaning and repair.
- Supervising spraying crew
- Making sure spraying, chemical distributions are done in a safe manner at all times.
- Making sure buffer zones are honored at all times for safety.
- Providing pesticide safety training as needed.
- Chemical inventory and purchasing, Tank mixes, Pesticide documentation, Employee supervision
- Use reporting and record keeping for applications.
- Responsible for sprayer changes as needed if equipment is down.
- Responds to emergency calls as needed in the evening.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years’ experience as Pest Control Advisor organic/conventional cool season vegetables
- Adequate experience in farm management
- Pest Control Advisor license
- BS in plant science
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work full agricultural schedule
- Proficient computer skills
