JOB FILLED - Director of Crop Production

Job Description: 
The Crop Production Department coordinates crop production activities to ensure on-time harvest according to planting schedules in order to maximize grower returns. Activities encompass monitoring, evaluating, scheduling and anticipating agronomic and related activities. On a daily basis, proactively monitor harvest (scheduling, forecasting and crew compliance, etc.), ensure that the crews pack according to the daily pack plan. Work with Quality Control to ensure that final products adhere to our standards (quality & condition and food safety).
 
This position has a “corporate wide / brand” mindset, and acts as the eyes and ears for management and the sales/commodity teams from the Field Forward. Work collaborative with key stakeholders (Owner, management, sales/commodity) to establish crop production division’s priorities in order to efficiently and effectively maximize grower returns.
 
The Director of Crop Production is responsible to supervise, direct, and monitor the activities of the other Commodity Harvest/Supervisors (Iceberg, Romaine, Leaf Lettuces and Broccoli, Cauliflower) and any outside purchased crops.
 
Work as the lead person Grower Relations representative with our growers to maintain a high-quality production base. In conjunction with Sales (and commodity managers) and CFF management/ownership develop the planting schedule and grower mix, to ensure we have the optimal production base for our priority commodities.
 
Understand, monitor, and adjust financial goals (budgets) at the commodity and individual fields /blocks levels. Work with sales management and (grower) accounting, to monitor performance on a monthly, Year-To-Date, and Annual basis. Use fact-based information to make recommendations on field / crop level improvements to maximize grower/owner/investor returns.
 
The Director of Crop Production is a key member of the management team and is expected to be an active, contributing participate in Annual Planning, Monthly Managements Meetings, Pre & Post season meetings and weekly production/sales meetings. In addition, this position shares the management team’s responsibility to foster a positive, constructive, and collaborative corporate culture. The position will interact frequently with CFF ownership and executive management, outside growers, sales and commodity managers, harvest crews, quality control and food safety staff.

  • Demonstrate leadership (strategies) and management (tactics) to help guide the Crop Production staff and successfully execute the annual crop production plans.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, to identify and solve problems/issues in a timely manner; ability to research, analyze, review, and recommend actions to management and/or sales rep/commodity manager
  • Strong working knowledge of agronomy, pre & post-harvest crop management
  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting vegetable crops.
