Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, hands-on Produce Merchandiser to support and strengthen our expanding retail partnerships across New Jersey. This field-based role is perfect for someone who lives and breathes produce and who understands how exceptional merchandising drives sales, enhances customer experience, and strengthens relationships at the store level.
As a Produce Merchandiser, you’ll be the face of E. Armata inside our partner retailers, ensuring our products look great, stay fresh, and perform well on the shelf. You’ll build high-impact displays, optimize inventory rotation, support promotions, and occasionally assist in identifying sales opportunities. Your work directly influences store performance and helps fuel our continued growth in the retail channel.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit assigned retail partner stores throughout New Jersey to execute impactful merchandising strategies and maintain strong in-store presence.
- Build and maintain attractive, high-performing produce displays that highlight freshness, seasonality, and promotional opportunities.
- Ensure proper stock rotation, quality standards, and inventory levels to minimize waste and maximize product appeal.
- Set up promotional programs, signage, and planograms to drive visibility and sales.
- Monitor shelf space, product placement, and retailer compliance to maximize sales performance.
- Provide sales support by gathering store feedback, identifying new opportunities, and assisting with order recommendations.
- Report on store conditions, competitive activity, and merchandising results to the Business Development Director.
- Build positive, collaborative relationships with store managers and produce teams while resolving issues quickly and professionally.
- Complete light administrative duties including inventory reporting, mileage, and expenses.
Qualification
- Previous produce merchandising experience is required (grocery retail, wholesale, or produce distribution).
- Experience as a Produce Manager or Assistant Produce Manager strongly desired
- 2+ years of produce or grocery merchandising experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of fresh produce handling, quality standards, seasonality, and merchandising best practices.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a field-based role.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license (extensive local travel required).
- Ability to lift and move cases of produce, set up displays, and stand for extended periods.
- Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, retail, agriculture, or related field is a plus.
