Job Description: 

A fast-paced organization within the agriculture industry is seeking a Director of Human Resources to guide and manage the overall HR services, policies, and programs for the entire company, including managing the HR staff and overseeing the critical daily activities of the HR department.  The Director of HR will be an integral element of the executive management team.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Effectively manage a staff of HR and Safety professionals (at corporate office, remotely or in the field)
  • Full responsibility of the overall management of HR functions including all policies and processes to guarantee the effectiveness and efficiency of all policies and procedures including Employee Handbook
  • Keep up to date on all current laws and regulations pertinent to the areas of operation and ensure organization is in compliance and maintains best practices
  • Recruitment, orientation, development and training of a superior workforce
  • Advise and support management in all areas of HR and Risk Management
  • Manage and oversee the H2A department for effective and compliant deployment of the H2A program.
  • Thorough knowledge of all requirements and application process as it pertains to the H2A labor certification program
  • Heavy interaction/collaboration in the field with Production supervisors
  • Continually conduct job analyses and update/develop job descriptions to fit the current needs of the organization
  • Responsible for the management of the Company DOT database system following all Federal regulations and requirements
  • Lead in the management of all compensation programs ensuring the company is update to all industry compensation and benefit trends
  • Direct all employee benefit programs and work closely with outside agencies as it relates to medical/dental, cafeteria plans, 401k and workers compensation programs
  • Manage all company training programs.  Directly train employees, manage staff trainees or coordinate with outside service providers
  • Responsible for periodic audits of company HR practices and documentation
  • Work closely with company’s labor attorney when necessary
  • Travel required (minimum 1 week per month during the season to Heber, Ca. or Salinas, Ca.). Occasional travel to other areas of operation when required.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of 10 years of experience
Qualifications: 
  • PHR or SPHR certification required
  • Bilingual in Spanish, a plus
  • Broad HR experience, including safety and self-insurance management
  • Highly organized and effective leadership skills
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a staff of 8 or more direct reports
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR management systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Travel required (minimum of 1 week per month during season to Heber, Ca. or Salinas Ca.)
