JOB FILLED - Food Safety Officer

Job Description: 

The Food Safety Officer is an individual that has the qualifications needed to be the essential force in our food safety and quality management systems. This position is primarily responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of the company’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP), which involves assessing the potential hazards of imported produce, and verifying that our suppliers mitigate these hazards. This person participates in, and may lead, cross functional problem-solving efforts. Proficiency in reading the Spanish language will be valuable.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

This position requires a person who has the education, training and expertise to perform activities, required by the FSVP rule such as:

  • Hazard Analysis
  • Verification Activities
  • Auditing and document management

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:     

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Training in HACCP/FSMA and FSVP preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations preferred.                                 

Language Skills:                                            

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Spanish language preferred.

Mathematical Skills:                                                  

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:                                                     

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:                                            

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software and Spreadsheet software.
