Job Description:
Heliae® is a platform technology company that uses sunlight and waste carbon to produce high-value products from algae. Based in Gilbert, AZ, Heliae is leveraging its core production technology primarily into the Ag Science industry. With a seasoned management team and world-class science, Heliae is advancing the future of the algae industry by delivering novel algae-based products to dynamic markets around the world.
We are looking for an Associate Intellectual Property Counsel that will support Heliae’s business objectives related to the protection of the Company’s intellectual property interests.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Patent Drafting and Prosecution: The primary duties relate to patent prosecution including drafting, preparing, and filing patent applications, including provisional and non-provisional applications; reviewing office actions from US and foreign patent offices; and drafting responses or response instructions for outside counsel or complete formal responses.
- Patent Research and Analysis: Patent related duties include providing patent research, analysis, advice and opinions for purposes such as, patentability, state of the art, freedom to operate, validity, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, litigation support and monitoring and analyzing competitor intellectual property portfolios.
- Identifying Intellectual Property: The Intellectual Property Counsel will also: identify and document patentable subject matter and trade secret subject matter from invention disclosure forms, white papers, product development meetings, research and development meetings, and meetings with individual associates; train, educate, and counsel associates on intellectual property matters such as, the patenting process, best practices, changes in intellectual property law, and company policies; and review associates' proposed presentation materials, research papers, and other publications to assess the impact on Heliae's intellectual property rights and portfolio. General duties of the Associate Intellectual Property Counsel also include communicating with other business units within Heliae regarding intellectual property matters; and other tasks assigned. The Associate Intellectual Property Counsel reports to and takes direction from the Deputy General Counsel.

- Bachelor's degree in life sciences

Qualifications:
- Experience in patent searching, patent drafting and patent prosecution
- Experience with interfacing with researchers and other employees
- Ability to rapidly come up to speed on new technology, industry, etc.
- A degree in Law from an accredited law school and a license in good standing in any state bar
- A license to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Stellar analytical, research, and technical skills
