Job Description: 

Greene and Hemly was founded in 1850 in Courtland, CA, where our primary operations are located. We are family-owned and managed along with other long-time members of the team. Greene and Hemly grows, packs, and ships pears and apples. Our operations are in Sacramento and Yolo counties with 12 orchards and over 1,400 acres along with two packing houses and storage facilities. We work with various customers and external growers.

Greene and Hemly, Inc., is recruiting for a Grower Accountant. This is a dynamic role for a candidate with grower accounting and/or cost accounting experience.

Job Description:

The Grower Accountant is responsible for maintaining and tracking all product inventory from harvest to production to shipping. The position works with internal and external stakeholders and reports to the Accounting Manager.


  • Oversee incoming and outgoing inventory and maintain Grower blocks in Famous.
  • Calculate inventory to generate pack out and other reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reconcile inventory with weight certificates, account summaries, and sales reports to prepare invoices and verify AR and GA charges.
  • Work with customers (marketers, processors, and direct sales) and maintain quantities and prices per agreement as well as track trouble notifications with inventory.
  • Work with external growers and maintain quantities and packing charges as well as reconcile inventory for grower settlements and payments.
  • Work with Packing House Tally and Shipping/Receiving on inventory and to resolve any tag/shipping/receiving issues.
  • Maintain Grower and AR charges in Famous and coordinate with Accounting Manager.
  • Reconcile inventory and market assessment charges for preparation of paying fees.
  • Assist with training other team members where there is overlap with Grower Accounting.
  • May assist with other accounting and administrative tasks, as needed.


  • Experience with grower accounting, cost accounting and/or shipping.
  • College degree in Business, Accounting or Agribusiness a plus.
  • Accounting software experience (Famous preferred).
  • Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Attention to detail and planning.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and analysis.
  • Proficient communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is plus.


  • Full-time, year-round Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:30pm.
  • Hours vary during the season (July to October) including overtime and weekends, as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily in an office. Periodically in/around the packing house, storage facilities, and orchards.
  • Must be comfortable around heavy equipment and large trucks.
