Job Summary
Join our Human Resources team as an HR Assistant, where you will play an essential role in supporting daily HR and payroll operations across our organization. This position provides hands-on experience in employee onboarding, personnel record management, payroll support, and regulatory compliance within a fast-paced agricultural environment.
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, you will assist with new hire orientation for field personnel, maintain accurate digital employee records, support payroll processing, and help ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to build foundational HR experience while contributing to a team that values accuracy, integrity, and service.
Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting new hire orientations for field personnel, ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately
- Maintain and update employee digital files to document personnel actions and support seamless payroll processing
- Review employee files and respond to authorized information requests from workers’ compensation carriers, office staff, medical clinics, and EDD
- Support the open enrollment process by explaining benefit options and assisting employees with required forms
- Keep federal and state labor law postings current and compliant
- Address employee inquiries related to payroll records, employment verifications, and other HR matters
- Collaborate with payroll to process sick pay requests and assemble weekly payroll checks
- Scan and maintain payroll documentation to ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Download and organize daily field probes for supervisors
- Print and prepare required field documents and labels as requested
- Perform additional administrative and HR duties as assigned by management
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with field and office personnel
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining confidential employee records
- Working knowledge of federal and California employment laws preferred
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with HRIS or payroll systems preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Agriculture experience preferred
- Valid California Driver’s License required
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
