As the Food Quality and Safety Manager, you will be the driving force behind our food safety and quality assurance programs. You will develop and manage all critical programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry standards, with a focus on FSMA, FDA, USDA, and GFSI guidelines. Your expertise will be vital in upholding the highest quality for fresh produce distributed primarily to Ethnic grocers throughout the U.S. Produce grading experience is a must.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Quality Management: Conduct hands-on inspections of all inbound and outbound products, with the ultimate responsibility for approving or rejecting loads based on our quality standards.
- Program Development: Create and establish a uniform, high-quality standards manual and training materials for our receiving and shipping teams.
- Compliance and Audits: Oversee our food safety and quality programs, maintain and update the company’s Food Safety Plan, and lead third-party and regulatory audits.
- Supplier Relations: Perform supplier verification, quality assessments, and performance reviews with domestic and international growers and shippers across multiple regions, including Texas, Florida, California, Central America, and India.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead traceability programs and mock recall testing, investigate customer complaints, and analyze quality issue trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, logistics, and operations teams to optimize quality from source to shelf.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A passion for produce and its quality.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a food safety/quality assurance role, preferably within the produce industry.
- Must have produce grading experience.
- Strong working knowledge of FDA/USDA regulations, FSMA requirements, and SQF processes.
- HACCP certification is preferred.
- Experience managing quality programs in both domestic and international supply chains.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
