SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The position brings together the best of the buying and selling of fresh fruits and vegetables from select vendors, resulting in profitable sales and satisfied customers. You will be managing and executing vendor and broker interaction through negotiations and contracts. Developing processes to grow brand sales year over year across all categories. Successful applicants must have strong organizational skills, and be able to work in a fast paced environment.
The produce buyer will interface with customers, vendors, sales, customer service, warehousing, IT, finance, transportation, and other purchasing department personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain product replenishment from vendors and suppliers at competitive market pricing.
- Knowledge of West Coast purchasing is a must. This person must have knowledge West Coast produce markets and logistics.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels to ensure superior service levels for all customers, while maintaining minimum levels of shrinkage.
- Analyze and interpret multiple sources of information in order to determine the best course of action to meet customer specific requirements specifically as it pertains to perishable produce products.
- Assess the financial impact of replenishment activities in all decision making and implement cost effective solutions.
- Achieve established gross profit levels while maintaining a competitive cost basis through negotiation and vendor relationship management.
- Interacts and communicates both written and verbally with sales, customer, and vendors in a timely and informative manner on market conditions, delivery schedules, and product information.
- Works well in an environment that requires team work and the ability to work independently to maintain required job parameters.
- Develops interpersonal relationships which encourage open communication and trust, both internally and externally.
- Maintains excellent attendance to ensure responsibilities are met.
- Maintains current knowledge of all produce markets
- Coordinate transportation from start to finish, ensuring timely deliveries, and maximizing profitability for transportation costs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school or equivalent education. Minimum two years of produce purchasing experience required. Knowledge of Produce Pro Operating System is a plus. Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred.
