Job Status: Full Time / Exempt
Supervise: 8-10 Field HR/Safety Representatives
Reports To: HR Director
Personnel Work Schedule: Field Ops Monday- Saturday

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for implementing Occupational Health Education and safety programs for all of the Scaroni Family of Companies (SFC) employees. Education and Training efforts include but are not limited to providing: on-site field safety audits, and agricultural safety and food safety training for example: First Aid and CPR, Produce Safety Rule and GAPs Training, Pesticide Safety Training, Heat Illness Prevention Training, Moving Equipment and Hand Safety. You will serve as the staff specialist in safety, field HR and training to prevent injuries and will diligently work to keep the company in compliance with all regulations applied to our job sites. Must develop and implement; procedures that effectively control accidents, health exposures, minimize OSHA citations and reduce workers compensation costs. You will also assume full responsibility for initial accident reporting and accident investigation. Lead and inspire a safety culture that creates a safe work environment coupled with the production demands of a “perishable reality” Spanish Bilingual / Bicultural required

Essential Functions:

  • Provide passionate, convincing, effective safety leadership to ensure all SFC companies are aligned with Executive Management safety vision and initiatives.
  • Manage the team to the vision of onsite compliance of any findings.
  • Notify executive management of pertinent details immediately with full transparency of details.
  • Models the highest standards for health, safety and human resource policies.
  • Develop and influence the organization to successfully implement programs and accomplish milestones and goals.
  • Ensure that information is communicated, understood and flows from management to employees and from employees to management.
  • Conduct observations and teach others to observe in order to improve overall safety performance.
  • Assist staff to understand Cal/OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling Cal/OSHA compliance, inspections and citations.
  • Interface and negotiate with regulatory agencies on health and safety issues and train others on how to successfully interface with outside regulatory agencies.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to line organizations on how to manage ergonomics related issues and make needed changes.
  • Research and evaluate new personal protective equipment (PPE) and tool opportunities and demands for potential products.
  • Investigate injuries in conjunction with line and staff personnel.
  • Evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs.
  • Assists in communicating hazard control information and evaluates the effectiveness of the control.
  • Guides and assists production, trucking and maintenance personnel at all locations with critical safety and health problems.
  • Oversees company accident statistics with the Workers Compensation team and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
  • Plans and directs safety and industrial hygiene services to obtain optimum service.
  • Works with trade and professional associations to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety area that affect the company's business.
  • Establishes target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives.
  • Ensure all field binders are Up to date with the grower list, location of pesticide records and safety data sheets.
  • Assist Human Resources as needed
  • Manage field HR of production and logistics employees.
  • Ensure all payroll is released on time to proper employees

Ensure you are continually training all personnel on key Safety/HR/Miscellaneous Training, including but not limited to:

  • Pesticide Worker Safety (A-9 Series)
  • Heat Illness Prevention
  • Chalequero (Crew Safety Rep)
  • Tractor Driver Training and Certification
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Safety in Moving Equipment
  • Process of Reporting of all accidents

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Field of Study: Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Human Resources
  • Experience: 5 plus years of experience in Health, Safety and/or Human Resources
  • General Office Equipment Technical Google & Google Apps

Certifications & Licenses:

  • First Aid/CPR Train the Trainer Certification Licenses:
  • Pesticide Safety Train the Trainer Certification, OSHA General Industry Certification (Desirable)

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge and expertise in Safety and Human Resources Compliance laws, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Imperial Valley/Yuma Area in the Winter (Appx. Nov. - Feb)

  • Valid Driver's License Insurable (to drive company vehicle)
  • Bilingual/Biliterate English/Spanish

Amount of Travel/Relocation Required:

  • Relocation to Northern Area: Salinas/Monterey County, Bakersfield, Porterville, Santa Maria, Huron, Yerington, Tulelake/Klamath, Oxnard, Sacramento.
  • Relocation to Southern Area: Yuma/Imperial.
  • Out of State Travel: Any other area management teams deems as necessary for you to travel too.
