JOB SUMMARY. The Accounting Supervisor oversees a team of accountants and ensures daily accounting tasks are completed accurately and on time. This role reviews journal entries, month-end close activities, and financial reports, and helps resolve accounting issues and discrepancies. The Accounting Supervisor supports the Controller and Assistant Controller, assists other departments with financial questions, and helps with year-end tax preparation and required filings.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS. The Accounting Supervisor reports directly to the Assistant Controller/Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Essential duties and responsibilities include:

ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR:

• Supervise and train team of 4-5 accountants ensuring high quality work and adherence to deadlines.


• Review and approval of journal entries, recurring month-end closing tasks, and cash deposits. Assist in resolving accountants’ issues and discrepancies on tasks. (ex: fixed assets, depreciation, chemical recon)


• Monthly review of mock financials for any errors/budget to actual variances


• Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller with research and special projects and field questions when either is unavailable.


• Support the accounts payable team with invoice-related questions as needed.


• Provide support to Farm Managers with any issues/questions regarding financials.


• Review and help with year-end tax preparation.


• Review balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy of accruals and contracts, including tree/vine deposits, payroll taxes, garnishments, insurance, rent, and other relevant accounts.


• Review and help accounting team prepare 571 agricultural and business equipment statements.


• Analyze property taxes (secured and unsecured) for annual payments and any supplemental assessments.


• Proactively identify areas for process improvement and spot potential errors in accounting work; and document processes clearly and concisely.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS.

• 5-7+ years of relevant experience in the accounting field. Supervisor/Management experience preferred.


• B.S. in accounting, finance, or related course work;


• Demonstrate a deep understanding of accounting principles and accounting procedures;


• Computer software skills with MS Office programs, including advanced Excel with pivot table knowledge;


• Strong attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision


• Excellent communication skills with ability to build productive relationships


• Experience in agriculture industry preferred, not required
